The thing that I’m finding frustrating about the game is that you pretty much have to log on and play every day.
Seems like an interesting game. Go ahead and recruit me!
Pretty much if you want to survive and progress to a position where you don’t have to wonder how you’ll buy food the next day (by the way I looked up and noticed you were starving).
However it might be less important when you level up to some reasonable point since then it probably isn’t that important to log on every day to work and such… hmm… thinking twice, if you become a company owner or politician or whatever you actually still might need to log on daily. :dubious:
Also, it’s more time-consuming than I expected, for the same reason the SDMB is : you begin to read a thread in the forum, follow a link to some player-written piece of news, begin to wonder what’s up with Venezuela anyway and inquire about it and before you know it, you’ve been logged in for 3-4 hours and yet haven’t answered your mail, negotiated with your new boss, read the French forum, sold your yuans and so on.
If you do so, you should consider carefully what country you pick (keeping in mind that you probably won’t be able to move at the beginning since plane tickets are a bit costly for beginners), considering :
-The size of the country (there’s a lot of people in the USA, so it’s very lively, but more anonymous and quite a bit messy, it seems. On the other end of the spectrum, picking a very small country probably might be frustrating if nothing happens, if your pick is permanently on the verge of being taken over/overran/whatever by a neighbouring bully, if the only oil well not hiring means that nobody has a job, etc…
-The population of the country. Some countries are massively populated by actual locals. That’s the case of France or Spain, for instance. You can play there, but you won’t be able to interact and participate if you don’t speak the language because other players, forums, newspapers, chats, etc… all use the local language. On the other hand, in Malaysia, there’s about 3-4 actual locals playing and using Malay has even been forbidden on their forum (the president is a Swede or something like that). I would by the way advise against the Balkans, because… well… that’s the Balkans.
-And of course, as you might have noticed reading the thread, low level salaries and low quality food cost, since there’s a significant likelihood that it will be your main issue for at least a week (it hasn’t been a big problem for me, but I’ve been lucky in a number of ways). Worst case scenario : you end up in a country (The Philippines today, according to a thread I read) where there’s no entry-level jobs available, so you can do nothing apart from starving (or I assume beginning a new game). Erep tools (http://ereptools.pl , I believe the link has already been given, but just in case) is a great tool for prices, but unfortunately, it doesn’t give any information about salaries below level 4 skill.
There’s also the “citizen fee” in the country, a starting amount countries grant to new citizens and which varies depending on the country. On the country screen, it’s under “society”. But besides the very short term, I don’t think it should matter much, except if some country offers some really significant amount (I don’t know if there’s any such country).
And before picking a job : look at the taxes in the industry ( they will be deduced from your salary. Basically, it’s a gross income) and look at the number of stars (quality) the company has. For each star, you’ll lose a point of wellness each day. Avoid companies with more than one star if you can (of course, you want to take salary into account or might decide you won’t bother about your health until later. Your boss might be bothered by a low wellness, though. And “fire at will” applies in the eWorld).
I hope we’ll see you soon.
I picked California, USA since that’s where I live. Finding a job was easy, although the first place I got hired to couldn’t pay me. Fortunately, I was able to quit and get a new job.
Is it possible to become a dictator? I’d love to start off in some tiny third world country and become a tyrant.
Well, I haven’t even read the forums yet. I don’t really like multiplayer games, so I don’t tend to interact with other players and such. So, I’m not really seeing much to enjoy about the game, because it looks like it’s mostly that.
Tiny third world countries aren’t really available. I tried looking for Armenia but nothing
Also, in retrospect, I think USA was a boring choice. While it might lead to success, easy money doesn’t make for good gameplay. I think a war torn country might be more interesting.
Nope. There are elections in every country. The best you could do would be to rig the elections and rule the country for your own profit (in particular plunder its treasury)
In my opinion, yes, it’s mostly that. Playing strictly alone, you’re not going to do much apart from some clicks , as far as I can tell.
They’re introducing countries one by one. Next are the Baltic states (Latvia and such)
Here’s an updated map : http://www.egobba.de/
I put it here, instead of sending a message separately to all American eRepublic dopers :
I had a food buying deal with ** Chessic sense **, but since he’s now a wealthy level 6 citizen, we thought it would be better to offer this deal to another struggling doper.
I need 1 American Q2 food (it’s cheaper than in France). I’d pay USD 3.5 for it (since it’s worth a little more than USD 3, that’s a profit of 40 or 50 cents. Not much, but it’s not like I have tons of money, either). I can pay upfront.
I’ll probably need it every day for the week to come, so I’d rather deal with a player who intends to log in every day (I don’t have the money to buy several Q2 food, so I’ll have to buy 1 each day).
Send me a mail on eRepublic (Clairobscur also there) if you’re interested.
Food in Indonesia is currently about the same as the USA (perhaps a tiny bit cheaper for Q1), so I can supply food from there if anyone needs it.
Also, for those considering joining/rejoining/moving: I’m currently working a skill level 1-1.99 manufacturing job for 3 IDR/day, and Q1 food costs me 1.05 IDR/day, so I’m surviving just fine. I had no trouble finding a skill level 0 job when I joined.
I’m interested clairobscur that $0.50 should be enough that I can afford to feed myself with Q1 food. I don’t make enough yet to afford Q1 so I could use the boost in my earnings. I’ll send you a message.
I had thought about you and checked the price in Indonesia, but if I did the maths correctly, Q2 food was costing something like 60 cents more in Indonesia (maybe I was mistaken). I wouldn’t know about Q1 food.
I responded and sent the cash.
OK. Since ** Oredigger77 ** didn’t deliver, anybody else for the food exchange?
A lot of countries only have like 200 people in them. It couldn’t be hard to run and win there.
Done. I dealt with ** Dosipede **
