Any experience with Casper mattresses?

Thinking about moving, don’t wanna lug the big bed. Lots of ads for these on BART. Any one used one? Do they pack up easily? Comfortable? Thanks, Dopers.

The ordering experience was fine. I was surprised at how (relatively) small a box it came in. It was much firmer than we like, so I returned it. What they do is, essentially, donate it to a local charity (Salvation Army, where I am) who comes and picks it up. The return process was very smooth and easy.

Sleep Like The Deadis my go-to site for independent mattress reviews. They give the Casper mattress an overall rating of B+ based on 31 individually rated criteria. Use the link to see the detailed review.

I was going to try the Casper. But I bought some stuff on Wayfair.com and saw an ad for their foam mattress. Their queen foam was a little less than $200. I was very dubious of course but I bought it after reading positive reviews. I got it and it’s actually been great. Check it out.

We bought a queen-sized one about a year ago for our daughter’s room (replacing the twin she’d had since toddlerhood), which is now the guest room while she is away at college. She has lower back issues, and got used to sleeping on a Tempurpedic at the dorms (much cushier than when I was in school). She likes it very much.

Seems well-made, but definitely on the firm side (it’s a very thick memory foam core, with a bit of latex foam outer layer). I have heard that they will send a topper pad to soften it up a little, on request, but I don’t have first hand experience with that.

The queen-size weighs around 65 lbs (30kg), so it’s a heavy, bulky thing to move around, but the Ikea platform bed we bought to hold it is much, much worse from a moving perspective. If we ever sell the house, it may include the bed :).

With a coupon code from a podcast, it was $800, including shipping.

Mattresses like these are a bit heavier than their spring counterparts I think. And they never roll back up or anything after you get them out of their box the initial time. So moving them is just like moving a normal mattress. I have a competing company’s mattress and I love it for sleeping, but when I move it’ll be the exact same hassle as moving a spring mattress.

Really the frame is where you can make the most changes to your bed for moving day. With a platform frame you can get rid of the box spring and that’s one less thing to lug around.

Great, folks. Thanks very much.

Thank you for the site. I have it bookmarked. It’s hard to find good mattress information.
