Higashino has written quite a lot, but only four books have been translated into English. Three are detective novels: The Salvation of a Saint, The Devotion of Suspect X, and Malice (this last one I read this weekend–amazing!), and one is called Naoko, the story of a man whose wife and daughter get into an accident, killing the wife’s body but placing her soul/personality into the body of the 12 year old daughter’s. (It’s…less pervy than it sounds.)
His writing is quite good. Malice and Naoko are my two favorites. I really hope more of his comes over. Frustrating to read a book as interesting as Malice and not be able to read more.
I loved The Devotion of Suspect X. As a fan of J horror, mystery and detective fiction this book ticked all the boxes for me. (Not horror I know, but I just love to immerse myself in that world). I read this book a long time ago but the characters live on - the maths teacher, the mother, the cop and the professor, and the sandwich shop!

Yes, especially Malice–I think if you liked Devotion, you’ll really love that one. Higashino’s amazing. I hope he gets more exposure in the United States…and that we get more English translations!
I keep on seeing his books at the bookstore (I live in Japan) but haven’t picked one up yet. Mystery is one of those genres that scares me a bit because if it’s not done well, it can be really terrible. After one or two too many novels in which nothing happens, I think I might give him a try, though.
