Any Fluffy in Flossie?

During a recent interview, actress Alicia Silverstone, a vegan, stated
that cows, on their way to becoming steaks and such, are being fed (eek)
ground-up euthanized dogs and cats. Now, I’m not exactly a
permanent fixture at Ponderosa, but I do eat beef every once in a while.
However, the thought of eating Fido at my local burger joint does not
exactly get my stomach growling.

Is it true cows are being fed cats and dogs that are put to sleep?
If not, what do all the city pounds do with all those animals they
send to the Kennel in the Sky? And is this the same case with
eating pork and poultry?

Let’s see…according to Alicia there must be a ‘service’ that goes to all veterinarian offices every day as well as city pounds; obtains carcasses of animals euthanized through injection of deadly poison as well as whatever terminal disease may have killed the poor animal; arranges their transport (presumably by refrigerated truck or container) to a ‘processing plant’ where they are ground up into toxic waste and sold to cattle ranchers?

I found a veterinary publication entitled, “INFORMATION FOR DAIRY AND BEEF PRODUCERS – PROTEIN FEED RULES”

It says, “Dairy and beef cattle producers are now prohibited from feeding to their cattle certain commonly used protein feed ingredients made from rendered mammalian tissue.”

The rules were issued in August 1997 by the FDA in response to concerns about Mad Cow Disease.

So even if pet carcasses are being processed into protein pellets, it’s a no-no to feed them to cows.

Yes. They USED to be able to feed cattle meat pellets, but they were not made from dogs, cats, or surplus volunteers from city pounds.

Well the cows on our farm were fed only grasses, hay molasses and grains such as wheat, rye, soybeans and peas; plus the occassional salt lick. Mmmmm salty lick! yummy
