Any German speakers on the board? What are these abbreviations?

“The TRB was replaced by the KAK and was later responsible for transmitting the SK to the rest of northern Europe which paved the way for the well known GBK!”

Google has been no help whatsoever. I assume they’re German abbreviations, but am not completely positive.

German here. Never heard of any of those abbreviations. What makes you think they’re German in the first place?

I was told they were. That’s all I have to go on. They apparently refer to a neolithic north-central European culture.

TRB is Trichter(-rand-)becherkultur Funnelbeaker culture - Wikipedia

KAK is Kugelamphoren-Kultur Globular Amphora culture - Wikipedia

I think SK is Schnurkeramik Corded Ware culture - Wikipedia

And GBK is Glockenbecherkultur Bell Beaker culture - Wikipedia

I found the first German term I could in articles about neolithic Europe, and then googled KAK (etc) with that term to find articles that pointed me in the right direction

This is some highly specialized vocabulary that no non-archaeologist would know.

I found some of them on this page (which is just a table of contents for a book that’s only available on paper):

TRB - (probably) Trichterbecher - Funnel Beaker
KAK - Kugelamphorenkultur - Globular Amphora Culture
SK - Schnurkeramik - Corded Ware
GBK - Glockenbecherkultur - Bell Beaker Culture

These are designations of certain cultures by the artefacts they left behind.

They are prehistoric cultures of Europe and West Asia that archaeologists, historians, and linguists are interested in. All of them certainly contributed something to the cultures, languages, and DNA of modern Europeans, but we don’t really know all the details at the present time. We don’t even know what they called themselves - these names are based on characteristic artifacts that they left behind, as if a future civilization 10,000 years in the future looks back on us and describes us as the iPhone Culture because so many graves of our people contain iPhones.
