Thinking about buying a Dell Dimension 8400 with the media center OS and was wondering if any Dopers would share their experience - good or bad - with the product.
If you have any recommendations, caveats, etc., I’d appreciate hearing them - even if it’s “Go with HP (Gateway, et al).”
And then there’s tech support…
I understand Dell has outsourced it to India. I am by no means a chauvanist, but I’ve had most unsatisfactory dealings with tech support people, particularly in India, and other countries as well. Is Dell’s tech support as good as it used to be when it was state-side?
greed. Some American Dell techies were pretty bad, but you could usually find a good one if you presevered.
I don’t know about the Media Center version, but I’ve found XP to be a great OS. The only weak link is Internet Explorer. (I’ve started using Firefox.)
I owned a Dell for years, and never had any trouble with their support. I’d recommend them.
