It’s official. The plane tickets are reserved and paid for. We have the itinerary.
Mississippienne and I are going to Turkey and Greece for two weeks in May! We’ll only be staying a day or two in Turkey, and then heading over to Athens. My question is this: Are any Greek dopers willing to give us a tour? We’re specifically interested in ruins and places of cultural and historical value. Also, is it recommended that we take the train from Istanbul to Athens, or a bus? Any help would be appreciated.
I’m not Greek, but I recently had cause to look into Istanbul -> Athens, and it seems that the bus (US$50 one-way, ~20-22 hours with stops for meals) is a better bet than the train (same price, but with a change of trains and a 7-hour overnight wait in Thessaloniki, overall time more >26 hours).
Doper Dog80 is in Athens – perhaps he’ll show up (his e-mail address is in his profile if you’re feeling bold).
