Any ideas on how to get really bad smell out of car?

I’m amazed that the post immedietly after Rick’s didn’t have to do with his post.
This stuff is amazing. Use it. Though its’ effects are somewhat temporary it will work well for a good period of time.

I still have a bottle of the stuff I use to make the apartment smell nice. I’ve had it for a year and its less than 1/3 empty.

Oops, clarification… didn’t have to do with “I know they do work, a co-worker bought a used Honda that the first owner had died in. It was several days before they were found.” Sorry 'bout that.

This thread reminds me of a true story back in 1987.

The shop foreman was going back to England to visit the relatives over the summer break. I live in Queensland, Australia - which is very hot over summer.

The lads and I chipped in and bought a huge gift of prawns and seafood for the foreman to enjoy with his wife on his last night at home.

But the foreman had some beers at lunchtime on his last day and the surprise prawns were left in his mini without him knowing went unattended. Worse yet, he caught a taxi home and left his mini parked in the sun all summer long while the factory was shut down for holidays.

Over a month later, we all returned to work and we could smell the disaster from 40 yards away. Our jaws dropped to the ground when we realised what had happened.

An honest mistake, obviously, but the car was trashed.

Tell him to get out and walk.

20 Mule team Borax works better than baking soda, IMO. I’ve never had rotten meat in the car, but it worked great for mold after hubby left the window open in the rain.

After reading this post, I tried vinegar on the floor of my car where various accidents had happened involving a 2-year old who likes to drink milk and tends to get carsick. The smell was bad news, and I was starting to despair, since I had the car detailed to the tune of $150, and it still smelled like Death.

The vinegar completely took out the odor. It’s amazing. I read that I should mix it 1 part vinegar & 1 part water, but to heck with that…I just poured the vinegar right on the carpet. Let it soak in. Mopped up excess with a damp cloth. Let it sit for about a week. The car reeked of vinegar, but I have to say, it was better than the Death Smell. After about a week, I rinsed it with water, let that dry, sprayed it with Febreze, and now I can’t detect the Death Smell at all, even when I get right down and sniff the carpet, and the vinegar odor is just about gone, as well.

It’s a miracle. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Sonia!
