Here is the deal. I am about 15-20 years away from retirement. My wife is a writer, and can work jut about anywhere.
I was raised in the Northwest on a small gentleman’s farm of about 30 acres. My folks still live thee, and we would very much like to convert the original farmhouse into a bed and breakfast. We’ve done some preliminary research and there aren’t many B and Bs in the area. Most of them are on the water of Puget Sound. Ours would be about ten miles inland, with horse riding, gardening classes, cooking classes, hiking and just general relaxation.
Have any dopers ever run or worked on a B and B? I have picked up a few books on buisiness plans, running an Inn, and advertising/marketing. As well as grant writing and Small business operations. We’d need about 60-80,000 sheckles to convert the existing home, adding bathrooms, a deck, and other ammenities.
I’d love to hear any stories, struggles, or triumphs that anyone has had. Also, beginners mistakes and things to avoid.
