Just wondering what it takes to write an App for the iPhone. Anyone done it? Anyone know about it?
Have you had a look at the documents over on theApple iOS developer site?
$99/year gets you all the dev tools you’ll need to develop and distribute an App for iOS devices.
I looked into joining last year and they have a pretty extensive guide on how to produce Apps including example code and a code library and help forum.
I thought OpalCat wrote a bubble-wrap popping app. Maybe ask her?
It’s very well-documented. In addition to the documentation on the Apple developer center, there are tons of books. “What does it take” is a very open-ended question. At a minimum, you’re going to need to know how to program well enough to be able to learn Objective-C, and you’re going to need a Mac with the Developer Tools installed on it.
Can you still develop for iOS using Adobe Flash Builder, or did Apple scupper that?
You’d still need the Mac and Dev account to distribute the app through AppStore though, I guess.
I came up with an app recently, and decided to run with it. I made a design document, and looked at programming.
I have some limited ability to program, and thought I could learn the basics to design my app. Well, programming an app is way, way beyond anything I would be able to do without a good year of study.
So I hooked up with a app development firm, and paid them to program it. It’s pricey (10k), but I am able to control the outcome and end up with a professional product. I have other apps in mind, and didn’t want to publish something I did myself, which would have been quite amateur. That way I can focus on brand management, marketing and advertising.
That’s what you really need to be successful at being an apps developer - marketing, a good brand and a great app. I don’t have the time or inclination to do all of it myself.
