Any landscape artists out there?

Or anyone who can link me to sites where I might find help?

First of all: Landscaping a flat lawn/yard I don’t find much of a challenge, but my backyard has a 43 degree slope for about 60 feet, and mowing it is a challenge at best. Next, I have a “pond” or “ditch” behind my property (well, at the back edge) which is a mass of weeds etc.

I know I could terrace the back yard, and put riprap at the water’s edge, but I’m too broke for that… any further suggestions which might be simple and inexpensive, and not involve lots of chemicals?

I plan to plant Vinca and Irish Moss along the slope next spring, hoping that will help, but that’s going to be expensive, and still doesn’t solve the bank weed problem. I see a lot of these concrete “things” along the side of interstates- they look a lot like quilts but are obviously concrete. Anyone know of a source for these things? or what they are even called?

Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Oh, well, I was going to start talking about the Dutch masters, and how the correct proportions were 2/3 sky, 1/3 land, and then about invented landscapes, and how it wasn’t until the invention of tubes* of paint that artists could really get out there and paint what they saw, but . . . uh, never mind.

Don’tcha hate it when people do that?

Another great site.

Also, type “ground cover plants” in Google.
