Any magicians?

I’m finally getting back into my obsession with magic (as in Houdini/Copperfield/Blaine, not the card game). Any other “rip-off artistes” among the TM?

I just built myself a practice mirror so I can work on my sleight of hand, which has always been a limitation. I especially like working with cards, and I’m finally delving into the Cups and Balls, so I can call myself a “real magician”.

Has anyone dealt with any online magic shops? There are several out there, but I don’t know how reputable any of them are.

Dr. J

I did magic all through high school, though I didn’t really perform much. The whole reason I had so much time to practice was because I didn’t have a social life. I quit for a long time, but I got interested in it again recently because I hung out with my girlfriend’s family over the hollidays and did some slight-of-hand for the kids. They loved it.

But I don’t currently have the drive to practice before a mirror for hours anymore, and boy have I gotten rusty. I feel really clumsy, and I don’t remember any of the patter. I’ve also let my juggling and yo-yo skills lie fallow.

It’s a fantastic hobby, though.

One of the things that interest me – not to change the subject – is how a lot of skeptical societies are dominated by magicians. It seems to me that magicians are in a unique position to see just how easy it is to create a sense of miracle out of nothing more than fast talk and slight of hand.

try the newsgroups, like
alt.magic.secrets or alt.magic they have plenty of info.
