Any men who wear hats?

Not baseball caps and not just stocking caps, but real hats. Be it a fedora or a bowler or a pork pie …

Last winter I started to wear a bowler hat if I was wearing either my well worn old leather jacket or my dress coat and also have a foldable ascot cap. Amazingly warm things, much more than a stocking cap.

Any other men who wear hats? Of those who do what are your favorite styles?

I’m a hat guy. I’m most drawn to the larger-fedora-to-smaller-cowboy-hat styles. I enjoy wearing hats and love the protection from sun, rain, or cold, but I sure wish restaurants made it easier to put them somewhere.

My dad always wore a faux fur envoy hat in the winter. My most-oft-remembered visual memory of my father includes the hat, but I’ve rarely seen one on anyone else, ever. A few years ago I saw an older man in the grocery store wearing one and actually teared up a little. In a nice way.

Armed Forces personnel.

I wear a hat. A fedora type. Sometimes I’ll have a straw version for summer.

Marines call it a cover.

I wear ivy caps pretty regularly. Does that count?

My friends often declare “hat day”: all the guys have to wear hats out. This presents an interesting problem for my friend Maarten, because he becomes a cougar magnet. It’s really odd, but when he wears a hat older women in leggings start chatting him up. They usually wear fedoras, but also sometimes bowler hats.

I wear a pork pie on occasion.

Those I’m in contact with on Facebook or Google+ can attest to this.

I wear hats, but practical clothing choices (not just for hats) for men are dwindling in the UK due to cultural association with specific movie characters - if you wear a Fedora, you’re trying to look like Indiana Jones. If you wear a long leather coat, you must think you’re Neo or something. If you wear a long leather coat and a Fedora, Oh, look - here comes Van Helsing!

It doesn’t matter if you chose the thing for some practical reason, or just because you like it. You’re automatically perceived as trying to make a statement of some kind.

I always wear a hat outside for sun protection. not a stylish dress hat though.

Yup! The squashy.

Keeps the sun off in summer and keeps my shaved empty head warm in winter.
I would like to wear a pork pie but at my age hats need to be utilitarian and not for style

I own and wear a nice soft gray fedora, an olive/ tan Stetson Mallory fedora, several wool flat caps, a panama hat for summer, a few canvas bucket hats and boonies for sailing, pith helmets, and a fez.

I wear a panama hat when it’s nice.

Mostly baseball caps, but I’ve started wearing a bowler. It goes good with my leather coat. I’m looking for a good wolf’s head cane to finish off the combo.

BTW: The bowler is the actual hat that won the west, not the Stetson.

I have a bunch of hats, some utilitarian, some for pizazz.

My most recent acquisition was from Cedric’s offerings.

So where do you buy hats in the real world? I’ve never owned a real hat so I want to try before I buy, but I’ve never seen real rimmed hats in a department store. Just straw hats and rimless drivers caps.

I ask because I want to buy a real hat, because my current straw hat is falling apart, and looks bad with my long coat, and drivers caps don’t offer sun protection for the ears.

I wear a flat cap in cold or rainy weather.

Chopper Read fixed that by having his ears cut off.

I’ve bought mine at Goorin Brothers (Chicago location.)
