Any Military Brats Out There?

Did you (or anyone you know) live (were stationed) around Independence/Blue Springs Missouri in the mid '70’s, or near Heidelberg or Munich in mid-late '70’s?

If so, all are welcomed to email me at sam_and_marty1(at)yahoo.com

Epic zombie!!

Air Force brat

born San Antonio, Texas

Norton AFB, San Bernardino, CA
Otis AFB, Cape Cod, MA
Niagara Falls, NY

My dad

We lived in Japan and San Diego.

I consider my early years as “Army Brat” years. Daddy was in the Field Artillery and eventually went to Germany. My first three years were spent at army bases in North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, and Oklahoma, that I know about and have photos to prove.

I was born in an army hospital near Fort Bragg and when I went back there in 1983 on a business trip the hospital was gone and there was nothing to show it had ever been there.

I’m told my first sentence was as we were approaching Columbia, South Carolina, when I was reported to have said, “I see the capitol way over yonder.” What has puzzled me all these years is how did I know what a capitol looked like.

My moving days were over by the time I got into school so I didn’t have all that much disruption to schooling.

Yup I am one. Lived in England and S Arabia, amongst other places.

Great. Why is this thread warning me about Y2K?

Oh yeah. My Dad is here:

Let’s see…I’ve lived at West Point where Dad taught math after Vietnam, I’ve lived in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Northern Virginia (3 times), Fort Benning GA, Fort Worth TX, Schofield Barracks, HI…

And then when I joined I went to Fort Knox, Fort Sill, Fliegerhorst Kaserne in Germany and back to the USA.

I went to five different high schools.

Army brat here.

I was born and lived at Ft Sill, Oklahoma in 1964.

Moved to Oregon for a year while my Dad was in Vietnam (66-67).

From '67-'70 we were stationed at and lived on Furth, in Germany.

'70-'72 we were stationed at Ft Lewis, WA.

In 1973 my parents separated and divorced so that was the end of the moves for me.

Ironicially, since 1984 I have worked as a Department of the Army civilian at Ft Lewis.

Is it safe to post in a zombie thread? Will my brain be affected?

I’m a Navy brat. We lived in the UK, Spain, Japan, and along the U.S. East Coast.

Wow! I hadn’t even noticed. Is this a record zombie?

It’s gotta be pretty close. My tenth anniversary is coming up, but this thread is from before I joined.

Dad was in the Air Force. He moved around a lot for the first part of his career; met my mom in Sacramento (at the original Shakey’s Pizza), my brother was born in Tucson, I was born in western Massachusetts, I think we were in Oklahoma and California again, very briefly, and I don’t remember any of it. He got stationed to Tacoma, Washington, and we were there for a decade. There’s a big Army post near there, so most of my friends growing up were military brats, too. They all had tales of the interesting places they’d lived, I was always a little disappointed to not have those experiences.

With 18 months before retirement, dad got reassigned to Altus, Oklahoma. My mom had a job, and my brother and I were in school, so we stayed behind. They got divorced not too long after that.

Well, since this thread hasn’t been locked…

I was an Army brat growing up. We lived in Germany (Aschaffenburg), California (Alameda), Texas (Fort Sam Houston), Tennessee (Clarksville, near Fort Campbell), and Illinois (Fort Sheridan). We moved every 2-3 years.

After I left for college, my family went back to Germany. I visited there several times. Like the OP (who’s probably not around to read this a decade later), my sister went to the high school in Heidelberg, Germany. (About ten years after graduating, she ran into a classmate in a coffee shop in Newport, Rhode Island. :)) After she graduated, my family moved to Munich.

I joined the Navy, and was stationed in Florida (Orlando), Connecticut (Groton), and Rhode Island (Newport). One of the reasons that I got out was so my son didn’t have to move constantly like I did as a kid.

Anybody out there live near Heidelberg or Munich from 1975 to 1978?

I am seeking any School-Year Books from Heidelberg Elementary & Middle School(s) (or any simple list of pupils) from 1976 to 1977 (particulary if they are online or electronically archived or saved somewhere)

Among many old friends many are trying to locate is one very memorable & indescribably FUNNY character named ‘Phil’ (last name?) who was in the 7th or 8th grade in Heidelberg around 1977, and who will be around 43-45 years old today. There is a $250.USD incentive for anyone bringing ‘Phil’ closer to his friends who still remember & miss him. Do you (or do you know anyone who even might know) someone like this? Also seeking someone named ‘Richard’ who lived at or near address 3-? Alamo Circle (on the 2nd or 3rd floor) in Patrick Henry Village around 1976. ‘Richard’ had a calm & ‘fight-defusing’ demeanor as if someone in his family was a Minister or similar. I realise having only first name may seem impossible - but reunions are happening with such little info all the time.

Lastly, have you heard of any of these names?: Joey Vagari(sang soprano at church), Scottie Pike(‘chicken lips’), Sharon Lee, Kevin Church, Robert Illuzi, Donna Wade, Terry Spencer (or her twin brothers Rex & Roy Spencer), Helga Umberger, Mike Mittan (who sold ‘sour-sticks’ around school and the theater), Michael O’brien, Lisa Hatrup, …
