Any NASCAR fans see the...

Diehard 500 on the tube today?
Woo Hoo, now that’s the racing we want to see. Half the pack taken out in one fell swoop. And no drivers were hurt. Cool. I got bruises just from watching. And the finish was pretty good too.
Well, I guess if you’re a fan of one of the drivers, it wasn’t so cool. But the crash was really dramatic. Love those on-board cameras.
Them guys got guts.
Peace,

Teach your kids to bungee jump.
One them might have to cross a bridge someday.

If you thought NASCAR was exciting, you havent seen anything yet.
Try F1, if you havent so far. Much more exciting. Why? If people crash, they either break bones or kill themselves.
Like I said, MUCH more exciting…

The race was great. The crash was stupendous. I have it on tape, so I’ll be able to endulge my “chariot race” fetish again tomorrow. I did admit to being a NASCAR junkie in the confessions thread, so it’s OK now, right? I don’t have to continue to be embarrassed, do I?

The Bobby Labonte interview afterwards was the high point for me–when they asked him “what were you doing hanging out at the back of the pack?” And he answered “well that is a good question, isn’t it?” End of interview. Gotta love it.

inconceivable? i don’t think that word means what you think it does

Actually, I love formula 1. Trouble is, they don’t know how to have a good crash without killing people.
Maybe they should look to NASCAR for guidance?
Peace,
mangeorge (I’ve been  'd)

Jaqcues Villeneuve has a reputation to crash heavily without getting injured. Last year, he had a HUGE 275 km/h shunt at the Eau Rouge corners in Spa, Belgium, during practise. The car was torn to pieces. Villeneuve crawled out and ran back to the pit to collect his spare car. His comments after the race were something along the lines of “Wow! That must have been my coolest crash ever!”.

Here are some movies of that crash: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/panton/JV99123.avi http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/panton/JV99122.avi

Unfortunately for crash fans, F1 racers tend to spread out during the race so most of their crashes are single vehicle crashes (except for the crashes in the first corner of the race). I’ve tried watching F1 last year and this year, but it’s hard to get excited when all the racers are 15 seconds apart.

Yeah, my definition of a fine weekend is when I spend it watching cars make a left for several hours.

Rich “G7SUBS”

Satan & Rich G7subs;
You guys make a good point. I’m sure it’s much more exciting sitting in you den, in the suburbs, watching baseball. Hoping against hope that somebody, anybody, will finally hit the freakin’ ball.
Or sitting in front of your monitor, clicking away on a silly message board.
Peace,
mangeorge (Ya got a remote, use it)

Yeah…I’m hoping they hit the freakin’ ball, not the freakin’ WALL! Whoa ,16 car pile up I hope I see blood and flames!..whooHoo!

Rich “G7SUBS”

Blood???

Blood,as in injured drivers FROM hitting the freakin’ wall.

IE Geoff Bodine,maybe?

No drivers were injured. Guess you didn’t read my OP.
I don’t think fans of any racing style want to see blood.
People die playing golf, fer cryin’ out loud.
Did I post in the wrong forum?
Peace,

Naw, mangeorge, this is the right forum. They just have to have something to make fun of so they can feel better about their armchair baseball.

My husband is a big Winston Cup fan, so I hear about all the drivers and I always know which race is coming up, etc. I always kind of stay within hearing distance so he can call me in to watch the wrecks. They’re my favorite part. Only in Winston Cup can you see a car so fucking mangled and have the guy walk away without a scratch. It’s great. I get the excitement and none of the guilt.

Heheh, yeah I was ROFL when he said that because I had been saying the same thing.

I guess you can’t blame him really. Sometimes it’s very difficult to improve your position in a race with restricter plates.

I kind of liked Earnhardt’s statement about how restrictor plate races aren’t racing but chess games. It must be frustrating for a professional driver to have to adapt to something that limits their ability to take all the straightaways and turns at the highest possible speeds.

Hopefully, they will be engineering energy-absorbing retaining walls into the new speedways that will allow the cars to travel at higher speeds much more safely.

You like NASCAR? Formula 1? Indy, Busch, IROC? Want to live out your racing fantasies?

Come to Atlanta, drive I-285 (the Atlanta By-pass). You take your life in your hands every time but, man, what an adreneline rush!

After all, what is your hosts’ purpose in having a party? Surely not for you to enjoy yourself; if that were their sole purpose, they’d have simply sent champagne and women over to your place by taxi. – P. J. O’Rourke

I don’t get to see many races but did see this one. Love that track! (mostly because I’m a big Earnhart fan) Do try to get them on radio each week.

Not a big crash fan, but that race was a goodie. Like to see them really race to the finish.
