To my annoyance my hair has become a decidedly lighter (blonder) color over the past couple of years- too much sun exposure on playground duty last year, I figure.
I’ve been thinking of trying a shampoo- not a dye- with henna in it, to see what it does. They promise to bring out red highlights in redheads, do they really work? Anyone have a favorite to recommend? So far I’ve found two online, one by rainwater and one called Henna Gold, anyone tried either?
I’m a natural redhead, but it’s probably darker than yours. (Reference photo here, I’m the one on the left.) I tried a henna shampoo, but it didn’t do anything except waste my money. This may be because I was trying to turn my darkening hair into a brighter red, though. YMMV and all that…
My first wife used a henna rinse (don’t recall the brand, sorry.) She had VERY red hair and the rinse made it more - for lack of a better description - brassy looking.
I remember trying them years ago, but like lovelyluka, my hair was getting darker (well, more brown and less auburn)and I wanted to bring it back to the original shade. I wasn’t very impressed.
Not sure if you have a store called Lush in NH, or a Body Shop, but these shops have a lovely henna shampoo that is supposedly quite nice (on experience of co-workers).
My hair is nearly black, so haven’t tried it… sorry.
FWIW, I used to use two products by Aveda. One was a shampoo that had botanicals like chamomile and marigold, to bring out blonde highlights, the other was a shampoo with rose madder and I forget what else, to bring out warm or red highlights. Both of them made my hair nice & shiny but the actual hair color seemed more affected by the color I wore (i.e., forest green made my hair look redder).
Most rinses will wash out with the first shampoo, also (check the label to make sure) so they are really no more permanent. Don’t use Kool-Aid. It will work but won’t wash out with one shampoo.
