Any opinions on Saturn automobiles?

I was never a fan of the look. It’s just an unattractive car.

Granted, this is coming from a man who owned and liked the appearance of the Volvo 240, but I just never cared for the “rounded wedge” shape of the Saturns.

My daily driver is a Saturn SL1. I drive it about 90 miles a day. Been driving it for about three years now. Has about 120,000 miles on it.

So far it’s been a great car. Very economical, especially when you consider what I paid for it. The only problem has been the transmission. It sometimes hesitates when I put it in reverse or drive, and it doesn’t quite shift right when I accelerate. But the problem has not been getting worse, so I haven’t done anything about it. Oh, and I have to add a quart of oil about once a month. But perhaps that’s just because I drive it so much.

If it blows up tomorrow, I am still money ahead.

Let me also chime in also that these are great cars. I think the only downside might be if you are a BIG person, or carry big people on a regular basis the fit might be a bit tight. But great mileage, reasonable handling, decently peppy, and most seem to be well built. I’d say if you are pretty sure the original owners kept up with regular maintanence and never did something stupid like not change the oil for a couple of years or let it get real low or something similiar with the coolant chances are that car, if you take care of it too, will last a long time.

Funny story time. I had a project where I had to go get a metric buttload of mulch. Go to hardware store. Figure about 15 regular size bags will fit so thats what I buy. Put em, look around, figure about where some more can fit next time.

After a handful of trips honing my mad packing skillz I made my last and biggest trip. This time I had to out in the parking lot where they had more stored and they had a guy out there to help load it in. I show him the reciept. It was for something like 35 or 40 bags. He was like “no way! we don’t put that many in the bed of full sized pickup”. And I was like “trust me son, it will fit”.

Got loaded up, and it did. I could even still see out the side and back windows as nothing was above shoulder height so I think I coulda even wedged in another 10 or so.

Though it would have been funny if I had gotten in an accident. The EMS team would surely wonder how somebody got so much damn mulch in a car.

I never liked any Saturns except the Sky. But that shit was legitimately hot.

Gorgeous car! If they’d come out w/ the Sky in say, 2000, Saturn would still be around (IMHO).

Read into ths what you will, but the junkyard I prowl around is absolutly *packed *with them.
