Has anyone here read any of the novels of Paul de Kock? If so, do you think it would lose something in English translation? Do you have a favourite book by him?
I’ve seen his name mentioned in a few 19th century books (e.g. Pendennis, Les Miserables) and it made me curious if his stuff was worth taking a gander at.
No one here loves de Kock? Or even has a puerile pun that they’re dying to make? 
Never read a word — not that this stopped me having the butler ceremoniously burn one of his filthy novels found in the servants’ quarter and subjecting all the maids to a five-hour sermon on personal morality until they wept.
