Any Pro Wrestling Fans in the Audience? (Multiple promotions) (Part 2)

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Agree on the men’s. I haven’t seen the actual bracketing, but if Gunther/Dragunov is wasted before the finale, someone needs to kick HHH in his lower male extremities. Women’s - I don’t see Asuka winning, sadly, as she is still my favorite performer to watch. Stark/Nile could go either way and Natalya I think has a low but non-zero chance of winning an upset. With Damage Control being titleless, I can see them all feeding faces for a couple of months before being re-invigorated. That said, if the plan is to rush Iyo/Becky, Iyo wins. The fan in me wants Asuka to be the QotR just to really cement her winning everything (except WM). The pragmatist doesn’t see it happening. Iyo or Lyra would make good sense winning the tournament.

(Just remembered, haven’t seen the Smackdown brackets. Will the RAW winner face the Smackdown winner in SA? If so, Levesque - don’t waste Gunther/Dragunov on a non-PLE!)

The scuttlebutt I’ve been reading is that Bo Dallas and Erik Rowan are going to be coming back as a new Wyatt Family.

Also Dexter Lumis and Nikki Cross are rumored to be involved at this time. And, of course, Alexa Bliss if and when she returns.

Prediction for the men’s side: Gunther

It’s time. I was very surprised to see him lose the intercontinental title at WM. But I think Triple H has bigger plans in store for him. Plus looking at the whole bracket, I don’t see anyone else really benefiting from this right now aside from Dragunov, and it’s too early for him. I like him a lot, and I expect big things from him but let’s see how the next year on the main roster goes.

Prediction for women’s side: Iyo Sky

This side is harder to pick a winner. I could see cases for Zoey Stark and Shayna Baszler to. But for much the same reason that I selected Gunther, I have to go with Sky. She just lost the women’s title to Bayley in a feel good moment. But Iyo Sky is still hot right now and unless they intend on breaking up damage ctrl soon, they need something to hang their hat on. And I think this could get Iyo over to a new level.

One possible explanation, although it’s not particularly plausible: it’s NBC/Universal giving the finger to Fox, as Fox will probably air a NASCAR race that night (speaking of organizations that usually avoid having events on Easter).

when did they move the survivor series from Thanksgiving?

I had to look this up so if this information is wrong blame wikipedia.

It appears the first survivor series to not happen on Thanksgiving was 1995. That was the first night it was held on a sunday. Looking through the list it looks like it’s traditionally held either the week before or the week after Thanksgiving now.

From wiki…

“The first eight Survivor Series events took place on either Thanksgiving Day (1987–1990) or Thanksgiving Eve (1991–1994). Beginning with the 1995 event, Survivor Series was held on various Sundays before Thanksgiving.”

Survivor Series - Wikipedia.

Pretty much right after Jim Crockett Promotions was bought by Turner, and WWE realized that there was no real need to have it on Thanksgiving any more. (Remember, the original reason it was that night was because Starrcade was that night as well.) It was first moved to the night before Thanksgiving, then to the Sunday before. Moving it to just after Thanksgiving is a recent thing; I think that started when most of the PPVs moved from Sundays to Saturdays.

And right after I post that, there are reports coming out that NASCAR will no longer race on Easter Sunday.

Right. And let’s not forget that Vince went to cable companies at the time and told them that anyone that chose to air Starcade rather than Survivor Series in 87 wouldn’t get WrestleMania 4 the next year. And this was right after WrestleMania 3 was an unqualified success.

We’re getting Cody Rhodes vs. Logan Paul for the UWWEUC at the next Saudi show.

I might actually have to watch this one.

Same here. It’s Old School vs Instant Self Gratification. I remember Cody saying he butted heads with the Young Bucks over his long pace vs their West Coast style, and Paul’s whole schtick is about style over substance.

I’d rather see a match that included at least one wrestler.

He lasted longer than a heartbeat. As long as he puts asses in seats, he’ll still be around. Besides, it’s not the first time a wrestler had their start in other careers, such as Wahoo McDaniel, Vader, Ernie Ladd, Ron Simmons…

Saying that one would " rather see a match that included at least one wrestler" when talking about Cody Rhodes versus Logan Paul…I stop paying attention.

I’m kinda pissed that we didn’t get to see the first-round matchup between Kofi and Rey on television.

Especially since Kofi won!

My local newspaper has a pretty cool spotlight on our local indy lucha libre promotion.

Just wanna say thanks ekedolphin for starting the Pro Wrestling 10 List Thread. It’s a convenient way to organize wrestling memories, the good and the bad.

Agreed and seconded. Wrestling is something I don’t get to talk about much on a daily basis so it’s fun to have an outlet that allows me to draw on my 30 plus year of being a fan. I’ve noticed the lists seem to be weghted toward more modern shows, and it’s fun to slip a few classics from the '80s and '90s in there.

Thanks, but I hate the awkward name I gave it and am open to suggestions for a name change.
