Naproxen is my go to when I need something extra to take the edge off my rheumatoid arthritis pain. I used to take it daily, but now less frequently as my doctor and I finally found a med that’s helping.
I tried Arthrotec, and for a while, it really helped, but then it started to make me feel pukey. So much so, that I started dreading having to take it, even though it helped alleviate the aches and pains.
I don’t know that there is a good reason why one drug works for one person, but not another.
There are different kinds of pain (i.e. visceral vs. somatic) and different ways to treat it, even in the same person.
Cox-2 inhibitors are not a first-line agent, because they are more likely to cause liver and/or kidney failure, which is why so many of them have been taken off the market over the years, and also why they are prescription only. However, if they work better for this or that kind of pain, they’re probably the drug of choice, all other things being equal.
Question for the OP: Are you on a statin medication for cholesterol, or anything for osteoporosis? Those drugs can cause pain that is often misdiagnosed as fibromyalgia or other pain syndromes.
No, but funny you should mention it. I looked into statins a while ago just for fun and saw some things I didn’t like. My mother had chronic pain and I told her I bet it was the statin. Her doctor said it shouldn’t cause pain. I told her to go to another doctor who ended up agreeing it was worth a trial discontinuation to see. It worked. I loathe doctors. Except Qadgop.
