Trying to trace my routes, not very sucessful so far. I need clan names and locations of people here.
Did I just say ‘routes’?..I meant roots, talk about your first impressions.
Well, I am half Scottish~my mom was born and raised in Scotland. However, I probably can’t help you much with your project, as I am not up to speed on my OWN roots, let alone anyone elses.
But allow me to say that I am proud of my Scottish heritage, as I guess my username will attest.

Thanks anyways Scotticher.

Half Scottish, mother’s side - clan Davidson. The nearest I can claim is four years at Edinburgh Uni.
IIRC, **MadHatter[/n] is a bona fide Scot.
Davidson, that is a very old clan indeed.
Calling names brakes no bones
All Scottish food is based on a dare…
Well, my grandfather was a Henderson, my grandmother was a Robertson. But I understand that it is your grandparents who determine your clan, and I am not sure how you figure out exactly which clan you belong to. It has been said that somehow we are of the Gunn clan. So since you are doing this research thing, I would be grateful if you would tell me how exactly you figure out which clan you belong to?

If true, babe, I dare you to hie on out to the nearest Scottish restaurant and order yourself up some haggis. I dare ya’, and in case you felt like asking, I’m not interested in joining you.
I don’t eat mutton, either.

I am still a beginning genealogist. Hell, my last name is Lloyd, but all my relatives come from Scotland. My mothers maiden name is McDonald and that reeks of irish, so I am not an expert in the least. I am learning lots though. My gaelic is very week, wish I took more lessons from my granny before she passed away.
He that talks to himself speaks to a fool.
My paternal grandmother was a MacIvor. I believe her parents emigrated from Scotland to Canada before she was born.
Cher is a beautiful welsh name.
Better a good name than a fine face
I’m scottish ,clan MacDuff, the clan of MacBeth. My sirname is Kinross which comes from Kinross-shire scottland. http://www.scottish-towns.co.uk/perthshire/kinross/
McDonald is a Scottish name as well, although it was usually spelled MacDonald. Many of the Gaelic names were “trans-country” between Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Many people changed the spelling of their name to “fit in” better if they moved to another country.
Cher3, is your name Cheri, by any chance? I have not had the pleasure of interacting with you before, so hello! My name is Cheri.
And Lloyd, I thought Cher was French?
Scotti
beautiful country indeed. Reminds me of Loch Lomond.
*Scottish by birth, British by law,
a Highlander by the grace of God. *
Nope, it’s Cheryl. But pleased to meet you anyway.

Good. I guess.
Coincidentally, I will actually BE in Scotland, specifically Edinburgh, for a week, starting next Sunday. So, if you want me to look something up, well…well, I wouldn’t have a clue how, actually, but I’ll raise a wee dram to you.
Well, cher3, my real name is Cheryl too, but no one ever called me that unless I was in BIG TROUBLE! So, understandably I guess, I avoid being called that.
Nice to meet you!

weesh lassies, i’m researching darlings.
That was a wee joke. Feel free to add to my message.
