Any Shows Like Chiller Theater/Elvira/MST3K?

Thank you, FriarTed, it was USA - how could I forget the red white and blue?

I really, really miss the afternoon or late night hosted horror movies. Now there’s all this cheap crap on the Sci Fi channel. The younger generation will be hard pressed to watch something like ‘The Giant Behemoth’ or ‘Them’, hosted by Baron Daemon or Dr. E. Nick Witty.

I don’t want to speak for Floppy Joe but I can tell you that the ones I remember are Italian and Spanish. My favorites are “Hatchet for the Honeymoon”, “Night of the Sorcerers” and “Death Smiles on a Murderer”. I don’t know if it was because of my age but these movies really made an impact on me at the time and to this day I can’t watch them without peeking through my fingers.

Whatever happened to “Simon, King of the Witches” - starring Andrew Prine. Or “Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter” - starring Horst Janson. Or “Vampire Circus” - starring I don’t know who, but was an atmospheric obscure Hammer film full of nudity?

I’m in DC (but originally am from Pittsburgh, so PG was the Chiller Theater I was thinking of).

DC. Well, you probably just missed out on Sarcofi-guy - he used to show public domain movies on cable access. Maybe he still does, I don’t know: Yahoo | Mail, Weather, Search, Politics, News, Finance, Sports & Videos

In lots of cities, there are DIY horror hosts like that - Penny Dreadful, the Bone Jangler, World of the Weird Monster Show…the only one in DC I’m aware of is Sarcofi-guy, and I doubt he’s still active. But maybe.

Of course, Gore deVol is still doing stuff on the internet.

Probably not what your looking for, but Turner Classics has “Underground” with great cult movies like that.

*Chiller *was on KTTV, channel 12, in LA. They’d show it late Saturday night and rerun it the next afternoon (along with *Outer Limits *reruns). I remember it from the late '60s/early '70s.
Then there was Seymour Presents on KHJ or KTLA…

Well, there are two that come to mind…

  1. This one seemed to be set in Haiti, or thereabouts. It had a walking “tree” that was somehow connected to a criminal. The “tree” had a knife stuck into it, which the leading man somehow shot with a bullet and drove the knife deeper into the “tree”, which killed it.

  2. SciFi flick either on the moon, Mercury, or some other planet. "Rock"men walked out of a cliff wall and attacked the various astronauts. Seems I also remember a character explanation that in an airless environment, standing in a shadow rendered you almost invisible because it was pitch black with no air to scatter the light.

I was kinda young at the time, and don’t remember as many of the details as I’d like.

EDIT: And KTTV was/is channel 11 in Los Angeles. And I was a “Seymour” fan-club member.

From Hell It Came From Hell It Came - Wikipedia

Ooooh, that sounds familiar. Do you (or anyone) remember one that, I don’t recall the story, but it involved Natives(native what, I’m not sure, but I don’t think they were American)and one of the last scenes showed one being sucked into quick sand and the very last scene was his skull coming back out if it? Man, I’l love to watch that again just for that part.

I won’t be online this weekend, but thanks in advance to anyone who can tell me what this flick is.

What am I invisible again?

FROM HELL IT CAME!

Wow, that does sound familiar. It Emerged from Below or something.

No, no, something like From Hell and Back.

That sounds like something me and my daughter would like watching together. Hopefully someone will remember the title!

If this was directed at me, apologies but I went offline right after my last post. The movie I’m thinking of is not From Hell it Came (though that does sound like a good one). Over the weekend it popped into my head that the title had “Tortuga” or something like that in it. I found something called “Tartu” but that wasn’t it. This didn’t have any monsters in it, just spooky, undead natives.
Thanks to all anyway for the suggestions.
