Any significant energy conservation if?

I’m aware that the electrical power requirements are considerable for freezers and refrigerators.
My question concerns people who turn the lights off and on in their homes even for 1/2 hr. or so. Many spouses of people that I know are upset because their spouse leave the lights “burning” when not in use.

Is their a considerable cost saving by turning the lights on and off when a pt enters or leaves a room? Yrs ago I remember that the more a light bulb is turned on and off the sooner the filament inside the bulb fails.

With the above question in mind, how does fluorescent lighting differ from incandescent lighting?
