Am wrapping up a vacation in Virginia Beach and was wondering if there are any stats someplace for smokers per capita in each of the 50 states. Reason I ask is both my wife and I noticed a large percentage of people who were residents (on residential properties, in cars with 'Ginny plates, etc.) that were smoking. Many, many more than we notice in the other places we’ve been to. This is not the first time we’ve been to Virginia, and the other 2 times we noticed the abundance of smokers also. I assume it’s because it’s a tobacco state, I’d just like to see if there are any stats to confirm our observations.
This chart is as of 2002:

So Virginia is in the middle for smoking per capita.
Ah. Interesting. Thanks! ![]()
