Has anyone ever done any stories set in or having events occurring in the Mariner Valley, the one that’s so big it would run from New York to Los Angeles on Earth?
Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars series has scenes set there.
I think they set part of the action in “Return to Mars” (Ben Bova) in that canyon. I could be wrong about exactly which martian canyon, but I remember it was a huge one.
(anyone else able to confirm this?)
One of Heinlein’s juveniles features a trek through a large canyon…on ice skates, I think. Want to say it was Red Planet, but I’m not certain of the title, nor am I sure it would feature the right canyon…
I was Red Planet with the Bouncers and et al, but Heinlein did not know about Mariner Valley when he wrote Red Planet. It was published back in 1949.
I popped in to Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars series but JohnT beat me too it with the first post.
