Any straight-on techno clubs in Orlando?

I’m thinking of going out Saturday night and despite living here for over 10 years I don’t know what type of music the clubs play. Are there any clubs with live DJs that don’t play rap? Hopefully more old-school, mid-90s style music too, but I can live with modern. As long as it’s not hiphop. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Oh, and what time do they usually get full?

I went to Mannequin’s in Pleasure Island once and while it played nearly the exact type of music I wanted to hear, it wasn’t a live DJ and I left on principle when they played a Madonna song  That, and I was prevented from a full experience by driving there, and so if there are multiple places to check out downtown I can walk between them!

Orlando is the founding city of the Florida Breakbeat dance music style. It used to be a great place to party and listen to dance music, until the anti-rave law bullshit was passed. There are a few clubs for sure that you could go to, a couple will play the safer trance style that you might like, and many will play dark breaks and electro breaks, which you may not quite be ready for.

Firestone would be one to check out.

Actually on 7/7/07, at the House of Blues, the “Art of War II” concert is happening, with Uberzone, Infiniti, and Rabbit in the Moon performing live. If you have never seen Rabbit in the Moon, GO SEE THEM. It is electronic music, but done as performance art. Watch some of their videos on their myspace page

I haven’t kept up with the Orlando scene but one of the girls I’m going out with tomorrow night pretty much has VIP access to every club in FL, she’ll know what is left in Orlando worth going to.

Although if you don’t mind driving, I think the best show on June 30th is in Tampa at the Imperial Theater at Czar-

Jackal & Hyde(another must see live act)
DJ Merlyn
J-Break

that will be a great show, but it leans more to the industrial/electro/bass type of music than typical trance or house dance music …I’m tempted to go over from Jax to see this show. Jackal and Hyde put on the best concert I’ve ever seen (topping Wu-Tang together with Rage Against the Machine)

I’ll ask my girl where to go in Orlando and post in this thread if I get a chance for you tomorrow. Firestone for sure would be a safe bet to go hear electronic dance music though.

Well that was quick…she says check out Icon as well.

I just might – thanks!

If I’m not working, mind if I tag along? I haven’t been to a club in ages.

Sure! I’ll email you my number, but I might not go due to not being able to figure out a bus schedule not knowing if there are pick-up cabs downtown, and getting sweaty even in the night air from walking.
