any tailory-type people out there?

(I wasn’t sure where to put this, but I suppose I’m soliciting opinions.)

Gunslinger just bought a suit for cheap on ebay. It’s a bit too big for him. My mom’s, like, the queen of sewing stuff, so we figured she could do the alterations while we’re up to visit next week. But I called her up the other day, and although she’s willing to try, she’s never altered a man’s suit before, so we’re trying to find websites or something with tips on how to do it.

I’m having a very hard time with Google and don’t know where else to turn, so I figured I’d ask the Teeming Millions. Any takers?

I’m not a tailor, but I thought you might want to try asking at sewingworld.com. They have good forums on many sewing topics.

What is she going to try to do to it? I wouldn’t have trouble shortening sleeves, for instance. It isn’t too difficult to open out the lining and take up a bit of length. But if it is too wide across the shoulders, for instance, you’re talking some serious alterations. In a case like that, I’d probably pay a professional.

Please remove one of those "for instance"s. Either one, your choice.

That’ll teach me to answer the phone, change the television channel for my daughter and post a reply simultaneously.
