I’ve recently purchased my first motorcycle, a 1976 Honda CB750F (she’s been rebuilt recently and runs great!). I’d like to get a sissy bar (ideally with a luggage rack) and to replace the seat (the one I have isn’t factory but I like it better than the factory seat and would like to replace it with one as much like it as possible).
I’ve gone to the local salvage yards and checked e-bay without luck. I can come up with the measurements that a sissy bar would need to match, but there don’t seem to be many (any) places on-line that sell them by their measurements. I don’t even know how to begin to find a seat that fits.
Any Dopers out there know where I can find parts for a bike this age that will fit? Or, (just as good) if I’m going about this the wrong way, is anyone out there willing to enlighten me?
I somehow got on the J.C. Whitney mailing list several years ago. Nothing I needed, but I thumbed through their catalogue occasionally. ISTR they had sissy bars and such.
Thanks for the quick response (and for taking the time to reply). I found one item there that might work (the MC Enterprises custom-fit bar), but my bike isn’t listed as one of the models it will fit and I don’t know if any other models have the same measurements as mine. And looking at the other models, JCW, doesn’t seem to carry sissy bars for bikes other than HDs that are as old as mine.
That one might work, but I think it may not be long enough - my bike has to bolts that look to be there for sissy bars that are 10.25" from the front one to the rear one. the one on E-Bay has an 8.75" length which makes it sound (to me) like it would be too short if connected to the fron bolt and would extend way too far rearward if it were attached to the rear one. Or am I measuring wrong (or mis-understanding things) ?
Sorry - that’s what I thought, too when I found out that one as “new” as mine was considered “vintage”. I feel like I have to slink into “vintage bike” conversations.
I had a CL150 when I was in Junior High School. Dad and I rebuilt the engine with parts from a junker on the kitchen floor. Some son of a bitch who got all the women at school had a CB750. Claimed to have it governed down to 5hp to be a “motor driven cycle” so he could have a license like other thirteen year olds.
I hated that guy and prayed he would die every night.
But I digress.
I’ve kind of resigned myself to having a sissy bar made - it doesn’t seem like there are any out there to be bought. Can anyone help with the seat, though? Are there sizes or classes of seats ? Is there any way to tell if a seat will fit before I buy it?
Yeah, it’s a great bike - everything I could ask for, other than a fuel guage. Mine’s spent plenty of time having the carbs and jets cleaned, too. I’m hoping that regular use will keep that to a minmum.
