I get the same thing. TMI ahead perhaps. It’s like I inhale and I choke on mucus and I have to clear my throat. My boyfriend keeps asking if I’m OK. I kind of lose my voice after I eat. If I swallow hard enough, I can feel some of it sliding down my throat.
Also with regards to having it happen as I try to sleep, I find this happens a lot right after I brush my teeth. If I brush my teeth and try to go right to bed, it’s mucus city and I’m the mayor. It’s not as bad if I brush them and then drink some water and go to sleep later, though. I don’t know what’s causing this, but do you brush your teeth right before bed too?
Airwaves - Menthol and Eucalyptus chewing gum - do the trick for me. My wife hates the gum, but loathes the hawk required to move the crap from my throat.
I’m in the Gastro-Esophegeal cause camp here. I have a hiatus hernia, with the added value of esophageal spasms, that can prevent me from actually swallowing food (if it really jams up, I’ll be coughing up mucus and saliva to avoid drowning on my own spit).
Your acid reflux could have scarred your esophagus, leading to an escalation of problems. Get it checked out - that way you will know whats up, but I accept that the cost may be a problem for you (they may want to run an endoscope down). For all the tax implications of a welfare system, free medical treatment is pretty good (but I have private medical insurance as well).
Happens to me only when I have certain foods. I’m pretty sure that garlicy stuff causes this to happen.
I get mucus in the throat that can be gently cleared (I can’t bring it back up, it’s too thin) and it lasts about an hour or so after eating certain foods. Now that I’ve read this thread I’ll keep a closer eye on what causes this (what foods) because it doesn’t happen often enough to really bother me (yet!).
