Just a couple things to add:
Agree LMM isn’t the strongest singer or actor, but if you want to appreciate him as a performer, watch the original White House poetry jam performance. There’s a period in the early part where the audience doesn’t quite know what to make of it and when he gets to “What’s my name? Alexander Hamilton” there’s a laugh as the audience thinks “OK, this is a white-guy-rapping-about-founding-fathers humor”. LMM doesn’t overtly acknowledge that or miss a beat, but somehow just dials up the intensity and almost through sheer force of will makes the audience accept this is something serious.
And on the musical styles reflecting the characters, I heard LMM mentioning that Jefferson’s “What Did I Miss” was written deliberately out-of-date sounding, since Jefferson was out of touch, having been in France. LMM went on to say that as a smart man and quick learner, Jefferson quickly adopted more modern styles.
I absolutely love that initial White House poetry jam performance. The looks on their faces when he says he’ll be rapping about Alexander Hamilton are priceless. Miranda looks crazy nervous. Then you see his musical director at the piano with this enormous smile because he knows how epic this is and when Miranda starts to get into it the audience including the President and First Lady just start to get it. It’s awesome.
No, I’m not. I signed up, watched the Mandalorian and a couple other things then immediately cancelled. And I’ll do it again. Star Wars is the only Disney owned IP I’m really interested in.
