Anybody ever forget about Cecil?

So I got the SDMB bookmarked as I do the SD. I come onto my computer every day. And in order I goto my email, CNN.com, espn.com, nytimes.com, boards.straightdope.com.

In fact it has become so ingrained, that I just realized today, its been months since I actually read a question on the main page. I completely and totally forgot all about the cool question and answer thingamabob that is the main point of the whole Straight Dope phenomanon (sp? I’m too lazy to look it up) .

So excuse me, while I spend the rest of the day catching up on the past few months of Cecil’s columns, and may I never forget again.

Repent, sinner! Repent!

I did the exact same thing for a while. It’s okay… gave me a couple nights good reading catching up. Kinda like taping a whole season of Angel and watching them all at once.

Anyway, now I hardly find time for the boards anymore, so I’m pretty much just limited to Cecil’s columns and those of his staff. Which I don’t go a day without.

Cecil who?

We are allowed to forget Cecil? Why didn’t someone tell me.

Bob

I always go straight to the home page and link to the boards from there.

Never forget. Semper fi.

I’ll be brave and admit something very, very shameful. You see, I was first introduced to the boards BEFORE I was ever shown anything about Cecil. I lurked for weeks before I even went to the main page.
Please don’t hurt me, Coldfire. I read his stuff now, honest. I promise. Religiously. Like we all should.

Well, I get the extra-special, uper-duper, super-booper advanced notice e-mail (getting his columns and the columns of the Junior Know-It-Alls waaaaaaaaaaaaaay before the rest of ya’ infidels) like all Cecil Cycophants should.

Not only do I read his stuff still, I time-travel to do so.

[robotic monotone]No. We. Would. Never. Forget. Cecil.[/robotic monotone]

That’s interesting Screeme. I have a very similar routine. Email, CNN, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, ESPN, Straightdope homepage, SDMB. And of course The Onion on Wednesdays.

And no I never forget about the columns. It’s like a mini-thread to start my day fighting my own ignorance.

I’ve done the same thing. However, I usually remember every month or so and slap my forehead and run to the archives. Then I browse the old archives and reread some of the classics.

Feh. I only read the interesting articles on the front page then it’s right to the boards.

“Cecil Adams”, wasn’t he that guy that kept on being quoted on that TV show with that guy named Lukas?

Tripler
I could be wrong, but. . .

I dont get the advanced emails specifically because that would mean that theres no point going to the Straight Dope homepage! My routine is is open Evolution and Mozilla at the same time, which usually results in Evolution being ready first, so i click Send/Receive and then click the link to the SD homepage and article of the day, then read emails/delete spam while it loads the article, read the article, then go to the boards. Then it’s ATMB, GQ, IMHO, MPSIMS, Cafe/Pit (depending on how I feel or how much TV I’ve been watching) and then…well then it depends on what time it is!

I have never forgotten Cecil, and I hope I never will.

Thanks for reminding me.

I’m curious about why there are three links to the home of the boards at the top of each board page (the big blue and white graphic, the little “home” button at the far right, and the text Straight Dope Message Board right below the big graphic) but no link to the columns except at the very bottom. It took me quite some looking before I found it. I could have sworn the big blue graphic used to take me to the columns.

Oops, I meant blue and yellow, not blue and white.

Nah. Just the other day, he called and I was like “Hey Ceec, what’s been happening?” And he’s all “Oh, this fershluginah war.” And I’m all “Hey don’t sweat it. You still coming over this weekend?” And he goes “Yeah.” And I’m like: “Well remember, you need to bring the pie because I beat you at Scrabble.” And he’s all: “Yeah, I know… I didn’t even know that was a word!” So I go: “Yeah, cool. Hey, I’ll call you later.” And I hung up on him, 'cause he calls all the time.

Good ol’ Cecil.

Cecil who?

Cecil Galt?
