Anybody from the US moved to France? Need help.

I am a French citizen, permanent resident in the US, married to an American.
We are thinking of moving to France for 6 months to a year, just for a change scenery! (please spare me the French jokes on this thread!!)
I am French so returning to France isn’t a problem to me.
I have questions about my husband moving there.
From what I see there are two major visas that could apply to us.
The first one is a long stay visa, more than 90 days, but that doesn’t allow him to work.
The second one is a work visa but my husband needs to find the employer first and the employer applies for him.
My husband is not fluent enough to be able to handle a job from the get-go, he would need a good couple of months, being there, not working.
So, from what I understand if we start with a long stay visa, we’d (well, he) have to return back to the US to then re-apply for a work visa to be able to work in France once ready…
I find it quite complicated specially being married??
Does any of you know of another way maybe “easier” because we are married. I find it hard to believe that a French person wanting to go back home with his/her spouse can’t just bring him/her along without having to go back and forth like that??

The American spouse of a French national does not require a visa to enter France, though evidence of marriage may be required.

To work in France, "The procedure starts in France at the initiative of the future employer who makes the application to the ANPE (National employment agency). The file is then forwarded to the DDTEFP (Departmental Employment and Vocational Training Directorate) and the OMI (French International Migration Board).

The file processed in France is forwarded directly to the French consular services by OMI (French International Migration Board).

The relevant consular service for the country concerned is then responsible for calling the employed person for a medical check and for the issue of the visa. The applicant must be in possession of the following documents:

Recent passport-sized photograph

Valid travel document (valid for at least three months longer than the visa applied for)"

From this information, it appears that your husband can live and look for work in France, but must get his work visa before he can start work.

I have never been through this, so I can’t tell you how cooperative the French authorities are about applicants who are already living in France. If they’re anything like American immigration authorities, your husband will require enormous patience, an ingratiating manner, and a large supply of Valium.

Thank you Nametag, this comes to conflict with everything else I found
I got to look a bit more, thanks a lot for this link though, that is perfect!
