Just got back from the closest thing I’ll have to a bday celebration, dinner at Cracker Barrel with mom, the kids ‘n’ my bestest friend. We had what can best be described as the Cake of God. Coca-Cola Chocolate Cake. I MUST finda coke-cake recipe to put in my fatally thin recipe book (under the title “Cake of God”, of course). Can anybody help me?
Go to Persephones thread about mistakes that never hurt anybody.
She talks about a chocolate cola cake in there. It has to be the same.
Tried a few of the obvious “clone” recipe sites like Top Secret Recipes On The Web, etc. and didn’t find an exact match. Found quite a few likely possiblities by a Google search using both “coca cola chocolate cake” and “cola chocolate cake”, though.
Don’t have any idea which one would be closest to what you had, but you might want to prowl over those possiblities and see which looks closest.
Hope this helps!

There are several different recipies for Coca-cola cakes. Give me a few minutes and I’ll email the one that I got from Coke when my SO worked there
This is really odd, because I have never heard of such a thing until Persephone mentioned it the other day, and now you are asking for the recipe.
I so have to try this cake!
Well, Kricket. I already emailed one to racinchikki, so this one’s just for you.

I don’t know if it’s the same recipe Persephone had, I didn’t compare them. But this is the one my mom always used and the “Official” Coca-Cola version. Enjoy
AGH! Must learn to use preview button!
This:
Group 3: (beaten together)
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 eggs (beaten)
1 tsp baking soda
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cup minature marshmallows
Should NOT have 1 1/2 cups of milk in it! Drop it. Ignore that part. <sigh> I think I need to go to bed.
I ate at Cracker Barrel today, while I didn’t eat the chocolate Coca Cola cake, I did notice that the discription said that they doubled the amount of chocolate in the classic recipe. Hope your cake comes out good!
Uh, we did mention sharing the results with all those who contributed here, right?
Or at least licking the bowl?

Wow. I’m not a big fan of sweets, cakes especially. I’m also not a big fan of chocolate or Coca-Cola, but I’ve got to admit, that sounds damn tasty.
I’d never heard of chocolate cola cake either, until my mom bought me a cookbook with a recipe in it. The recipe I have is not the same as Arden’s, but I think that’s because mine starts with a box cake mix, instead of from scratch. I may have to try Arden’s sometime, though!
Here’s mine:
Cake
Vegetable oil spray (for the cake pan)
1 package (18.25 oz) plain white cake mix
4 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder
8 tbs (1 stick) butter or margarine, melted
1 cup cola (I used Coke, but you can use waht you want)
1/2 cup buttermilk*
2 large eggs
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups mini marshmallows
*I used this stuff that my mom got me, called Saco Cultured Buttermilk Blend. It’s powdered, and you just mix it with water. That way, you don’t have to worry about buying real buttermilk & throwing away what you don’t use.
Frosting
8 tbs butter or margarine
4 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder
4 C confectioner’s sugar, sifted
1 C chopped pecans
Heat oven to 350. Mist 13X9 cake pan with cooking spry & set aside.
Mix all ingredients for cake except the marshmallows. Blend w/electric mixer on low for 1 min, scrape the sides of the bowl, then increase speed to medium for 2 min (or use a whisk, if like me, you can’t locate your electric mixer ) Fold in marshmallows. Pour batter into pan, & smooth it out. Place pan in oven. Bake until cake springs back when lightly pressed with your finger, and just starts to pull away from sides of pan, 40-42 minutes. Remove from oven, place on wire rack to cool for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare frosting. Place butter in medium saucepan over low heat. As butter melts, stir in cocoa powder & cola. Let mixture come just to a boil, stirring constantly, then remove from heat. Stir in confectioners sugar until frosting is thickened & smooth. Fold in pecans.
Pour frosting over top of cake, spreading it out with spatula (or wooden spoon–I’m a big fan of wooden utensils :)) so that it reaches the edge of cake. Cool cake for at least 20 minutes before serving.
Just in case you didn’t notice, no you don’t have to remove the cake from the pan to cool, and no, the cake does not have to be cooled completely before frosting. Neat, huh? I also opted not to use the pecans in the frosting, because I’m not crazy about them. Turned out just fine.
Now I’ve got to go find a pen & paper & write down Arden’s recipe…
Whoops! Just noticed I forgot to give credit where credit is due!
This recipe is from a book that my mom gave me for Christmas called The Cake Doctor, by Anne Byrn. All the recipes start with a boxed cake mix for the base. So far, the Old-Fashioned Cola Cake is the only one I’ve tried, and it’s excellent. I can’t wait until my finances will allow me to try a few more of these babies. Besides being yummy, it was easy.
