Mr. Twylight and I will be car shopping in the next few weeks, and I was wondering if anyone has a New Beetle.
I really like them, and I really want one, but when my husband asked why I wanted one so badly, all I could come up was because I think they’re cute.
My husband does not like the idea of buying an almost new car, and spending upwards of ten grand because I think it’s ‘cute’.
Anyone have one? Anyone know anyone who has one? Do they like/dislike it?

I know someone who has one. Basically, it’s an overpriced VW Golf (is that one still a “Rabbit” in the US?) with different body work. Same floor pan, same engines. And absolutely no room in the back, poor visibility to the rear, and rather vague steering (just like the Golf).
Here is a test from “What Car?”, an English car magazine.
It wouldn’t be my sort of car, but I guess it is fine in terms of build quality. I’m sure the image of the car is the most important factor. If your husband needs to be convinced that the VW Beetle is a reliable and well-built car, let him read the article. Practicality is, however, out of the question with a car like this.
I know exactly what you mean, they are soooo cute!! Unfortunately, they aren’t a practical family car. There is a backseat, but I don’t think that there is enough room for even my 4 year old back there.
But hey, if you don’t have kids, why not? Plus, then you could give me rides, and we’ll look super cute!
