I got the LG Chocolate Touch instead, for about 30 bucks at the time. I uderstand that with any of the new 3G plans, verizon requires you to also get an e-mail plan for a minimum of 9.99 per month. Thankfully I signed my contract before that was a requirement.
Not now, I called to check. I have had a bare-minimum plan with Alltel for years, for $9.99 and 20 minutes a month. We only use our two LG phones for emergency calls in case of accident, or rarely when we need to call one another. Still have landlines at home free with a Cox Internet/TV plan. I know, old fuddy-duddies.
When Verizon took over, I feared they might cancel this, but no problem there. They also will give us two Samsungs free, and even forget the silly rebate deal with debit cards, if I sign a two-year contract. And as I will never use texting or email or any other thing besides just telephoning, there is no extra cost. Oh yeah, I probably will use the camera now and then.
I expect will do this, as much nicer phones than the bulky old LG AX4270 flip-phones we have had for years.
I’ve got until the end of April for this deal, and unless anybody posts that the phones are horrible, will go ahead.
My wife and I both have one. We like it a lot. It has good sound, the camera takes good photos, the QWERTY keyboard is solid and functional, the menus are pretty intuitive. Coming from having had a flip-phone for years, though, the only downside is that I sometimes accidentally turn it off in my pocket. Not a huge problem, though, since it has a pretty good keypad lock mechanism.
Thanks, Ogre, that is good to know.
You might search for Samsung cases. There about a gazillion of them, most with swivel hook on back, and in a variety of materials. Seems to me even putting the phone in a case, you could still slip it in your pocket, or hook to a belt or pocketbook strap.
There are also hard covers that snap on the front that would probably sove the on/off button problem.
I have one and I like it a lot! I thought I was going to hate it because I was so attached to my flip phone and all I could see were the negatives of having a non-flip phone. But the phone changed my mind within a day. My only issue is that I (as someone else mentioned) sometimes accidentally turn it off.
I also have issues with some phones, so I will give you my list of pros and cons for the Intensity:
Pro: Very loud, very clear (important because I am half-deaf)
Con: Very loud, very clear from both ends (so who you are talking to can hear what’s going on in the back ground too, so no whispering secrets or trying to hide that you are at a party.
Pro: QWERTY Keyboard. I love it. I can actually text now without it taking several minutes to say, “okay”
Con: QWERTY keyboard. I now text way too much. My plan allows only a limited number of texts before they start costing me extra, and I thought I would never hit that number because I never text…now I do, and I routinely have to force myself to call or email instead of texting so that I don’t pay for overages,
I’m sure there are others but all in similar vein…
I have one, it’s my first somewhat modern cellphone. No complaints, it does everything I want. I like the keyboard for sending texts. I also like the notes feature although the notes are limited to SMS message size for some strange reason.
The speakerphone works well, and the reception seems very good.
