Ab Ripper X is all I do now. I can ride enough miles on the bike during the week that I don’t want to do the rest of it. I may do the core dvd a couple of times a week though. When it gets too cold for me to ride, I’ll try to finish all 90 days. I think my problem is that I get bored doing the same thing. On the bikes, I can vary my surroundings each time.
Plus you can run over different people each time!
I’m still at it, in my rest week now. I lost almost 9lb since 6/4, but that was clearly too much, too soon because I’m now a couple of pounds up, bringing the total loss to about 7lb. Of course - girly stuff warning! - it being that time of the month might have something to do with it too.
I actually gave up on doing Ab Ripper X every other day. What I’ve done instead is to do the moves without watching the DVD. I go at my own pace and am able to get to 25 reps (or darn close) for many of the moves. I’ll have to try removing the shoes, great suggestion there.
Oh, and I screwed up a bit during the rest week and did Plyo instead of Kenpo. Ah well, it’s marginally harder but it shouldn’t be a big deal. Last night I was supposed to do Stretch X but honestly, the first time I tried it I was a bit let down, so I did cardio X instead with the appropriate warmup and stretching before and after. It’s gotten so a day without sweating like a mofo is like a day without sunshine. I would have said “like a day without a strawberry daiquiri” but I’ve quit drinking since starting the program. Im Interested!! My wife and son have been asking me to buy it. It looks fantastic, I can’t wait to get started. My question for you guys is, where did you all buy your copy? amazon has it for 140$ I want to find a better deal because I have to buy a chin up bar to go with it.
We already have the weights and yoga equipment. Im kindy “iffy” about buying it used. I have a feeling I will get jip’d out of some of the papers that goes with it. I will post my experience when we start.
I just finished week two. I think that I am going to give up on the resistance workouts and start going back to the gym on those days. I just don’t have all of the weights that I need for 8-10 reps on all the different exercises and I don’t like the bands. Also, I can’t really see how doing 200 push-ups on the chest-back day could be better for me than doing less reps with a lot more weight on a bench. It seems like a program more suited for those trying to lose weight and tone. I’m a relatively skinny guy trying to gain muscle I think I’m better off at the gym. At least this provided me with some motivation to get off the couch once again. I’ll still use Ab ripper-X and Plyometrics as they do seem like a good compliment to gym work.
I got it online through the official website. To me, I decided that I wasn’t going to skimp on the money. I know me and if I got it for free off a friend’s or coworker’s copy, I would just think that I could ditch the workout anytime I want because I haven’t comitted any money to it. By forcing myself to buy it full price, I comitted to it and it’s less easy to just toss it and not use it when you paid $151 (with taxes) for the whole thing
I got mine through Beachbody.com (the official site). Beware of copies sold through any other site except Amazon, who get their DVD packages from Beachbody. Basically if you’re paying less than the price listed on Beachbody.com, you’re very likely getting ripped off. Either you’ll get burns of the DVDs, or the extra things included in the package won’t be there, such as the books and tracking calendar, both of which are most helpful.
I just bought P90X late last week and am hoping it comes in the mail today! My plan is to get everything I need this week so I can start Saturday morning.
I have lost about 40 pounds since last August by eating healthier food and getting lots of exercise. But now I’m at a plateau and I haven’t really lost much in the last 2 months. I’m too used to the exercise I am currently doing and it just doesn’t seem to have the same effect it had when I first started. So I decided to try this program to mix things up, break the rut, and take me through these last 20 or 30 pounds I want to lose. I’m planning on following the program exactly as written and am really excited about starting!
I got mine off of Craigslist for 60 bucks. I inspected everything, and even brought my laptop with me to make sure the DVDs actually worked. It was just a lady that bought it and didn’t use it.
I did all the Mason twists YogSosoth! I cheated, and did them first, but then was able to finish everything else! First time since I started in April that I did all of AbRipperX. I’m feelin’ studly.
I’m in week 3 of the lean. I have not lost anything. Not even a millimeter. I have gained weight. I’m starting to get PISSED. I downloaded the mealplan and all that, but really? Who the hell has time to prepare all that shit? It’s a little ridiculous. I’ve always counted my calories and am now trying to stay in the meal plan proportions (50% protein, 25% carb and 25% fat) and am usually coming in at about 40% protein, 35% carbs and 25% fat. Still, not an f’n ounce lost. This is becoming beyond frustrating.
I DO enjoy the workouts though. Especially the Kenpo, now. I feel like a badass doing it!
That happens to a lot of people, especially women. It’s been called P120X more than once when it comes to women because a lot of us don’t see much of anything until the last phase or beyond.
I’m in week 3 of classic and haven’t seen much change. The weight loss I was seeing before starting has slowed somewhat, and my SO says my gut is smaller but I think he’s comparing to my heaviest, not just since starting P90X. Mainly I’ve just noticed the routines getting easier and being able to use heavier weights. It’s frustrating but given all the results I’ve seen from other people, I’ll at least give it a full chance.
Yeah, it’s just weird because when I’m dieting without exercising, I can actively see the weight come off, albiet slowly. Given that, you’d think adding 6 days of hardcore exercise a week would speed up that loss (or at least inches being lost) even more. Not so much, though. I hadn’t heard the 120X thing with women, that makes me feel a little better. I was just going to be doing it until August, when I start running again, but maybe I’ll just keep at it through the whole thing. I’ve also noticed the routines have gotten easier and I’m using heavier weights as well. I also wear a heart rate monitor so I can keep track of calories burned. Mathmatically, I should be losing weight. Go figure.
Woo! Good job! 50’s tough, I still can’t do them all of the time, just about half the time now. Something about leaving the hardest exercise for the end seems unfair!
I’m at the end of week 3 of the Classic. For most of the first 2 weeks, I didn’t notice much change at all. Then this last weigh in I did a couple days ago I lost like 2-3 lbs from before! Maybe you’re gaining muscle faster than you’re losing fat? When I compare my Day 1 to now Day 17, I’ve lost about an inch around my stomach but still weighed kind of the same. Keep at it, if you can lift more or do more reps, you know you’re getting healthier despite what the scale may say
Oh, what a relief to know that I’m not alone with the scale not budging. When I first started P90X Classic I lost around 9 lb in the first three weeks (as mentioned in my above post). Then Aunt Flo came along and my weight bounced up by 3lb. No biggie, I thought. I’ll shed that excess water and be 8 lb down again in no time. HUH UH! NOPE! I’ve been stuck at 180.5 for days now despite faithfully sticking with the program, cutting out sugar/booze/fried stuff and drinking plenty of water. This time last week I could almost shake my wedding band off my finger and fit into new size 10 slacks. Today, bloat city.
I also suspect that I’m not eating quite enough for my metabolism to keep up with the workouts. I track my nutrition faithfully on Sparkpeople and some days I struggle to hit 1100 calories, and that’s eating fairly clean. Am buying a heart rate monitor soon to help me get a better idea of how many calories I burn during the workouts instead of having to guess.
Excellent point. By paying full price I too will be more inclined to continue using it. Thanks YogSosoth.
I weigh 138 (up from 130 before I started working out ) and usually end up at around 1500-1800 calories. I burn about 400-600 calories per workout, on average. According to all the nutritional calculations, I need about 1800 calories per day. I just don’t get it. I mean, I’d get it if I were losing inches but not pounds, but I’m not losing EITHER. It’s maddening.
I will keep at it, though. If I’m still the exact size and weight at the end of phase two, though, I’m pretty sure I’m gonna have to say “fuck it.”
There was a quirk about weighing myself that I had to figure out and it took me a few weeks to realize it. I suspect that the first few weeks, my weight wasn’t budging much because I would weigh myself sometimes after eating. Don’t do that! Shit in your colon makes up a few pounds! Weigh yourself after going to the bathroom so you’re not counting that extra shit weight!
Also, clothes are surprisingly heavy, so take 'em off!
Somehow, I’m down about 4.5 pounds this past week! The legend of the 3rd week weight loss came true for me! I’m now more psyched than ever to continue doing this!
YogSosoth, your enthusiasm is keeping this thread afloat and I for one appreciate it. Congrats on your progress! =-)
Last Friday I came to the decision that I wasn’t really doing everything as properly as it should be done. By that I mean the workouts, eating plan, everything. Emailed my beachbody coach and we decided that it would be best for me to “reboot” the program and start @ week 1 again. Last night was my new day one. Today I’m getting a HRM so I can more accurately measure my calorie burn and adjust my eating habits accordingly. Trying to get healthy sources of protein in at every meal including breakfast.
So I jumped into the chest&back workout last night (without overdoing it) and today I’m sore (in a good way) in all the right places for the first time. It took a while for me to get over the negative mindset that Tony talks about in that very workout - the “I can’t do this” mentality. This time around I finished the workout knowing that I didn’t “dog” it - I did my very best.
Also, my husband found a different kind of doorway pull up bar system that has adjustable heights so I can do assisted pull ups instead of the bands (which just don’t provide enough challenge, and I have some seriously strong ones). I want to use an actual bar for those exercises because I know it’s going to help me progress a lot faster.
TMI Alert YogSosoth, I weigh myself first thing in the morning unclothed after peeing, but the ol’ digestive system doesn’t get crankin’ until I’m at work, so I’m sure there’s a bit of extra weight there. I doubt it’s enough in my case to make any real difference on the scale, though.
Hey thanks! I am excited for me and for others because personally, this weight thing has been a struggle and a source of some embarassment for a lot of my life. I have wanted to lose weight for years and years but I always think to myself I can do it quickly or easily, so I try pointless crash diets where I try to eat more vegetables for like a week, then I get sick of it and I go back to my normal diet. Not surprisingly, I get nowhere
Exercise has been even harder. I tell myself I’ll do some exercises, but then I either get hungry and eat and not do them, or do only a few minutes thinking that it’ll actually make a difference. I remember this one period of a few weeks where I would do about 3 mins of jumping jacks, then some leg lifts, followed by a couple dozen curls with the weights. Total exercise for those days would be about 15 mins. I foolishly thought that would make a difference. When it didn’t, I’d get depressed and give up
This P90X actually represents my very last chance and hope at getting into shape. I told a friend of mine that I would follow this to the end of the 90 days, but if even this was unsuccessful, that I would just give up forever. If this didn’t work, I’m just going to start eating whatever I wanted and to hell with how I look or feel. That means burgers whenever I want, fattening fried chicken, going to buffets, ignoring vegetables and fruit, all of it. Basically, all the stuff I’ve been kind of holding back from doing for many years. So I’m both glad and relieved that I won’t be killing myself because of the pounds I’ve lost. I know that I can now follow this and it will make a real difference because if it didn’t, I was going to stop trying to get healthy forever
You mean you don’t have an urge to take a dump every morning?
