anybody know anything about Norwegian/US dual citizenship?

A friend asked me to research this for her, and due to certain circumstances she’s not where she can easily do it, and I don’t mind, but I’m not having a lot of success. I’ve looked on the official site for US’ers for Norwegian visas and passports and such. I thought I’d ask for any personal experiences (not legal advice, of course) or knowledge that you all have. She was born in Norway and lived there for first 18 or so years of her life, then moved to US and was naturalized here (that’s the thing she’s done that the web sites say made her “automatically forfeit” her Norwegian citizenship). She has returned several times, once for two years in which she worked and paid taxes over there. Now she wants to somehow get a Norwegian passport again so she can live there for more than the six months (I think) you can usually stay without having to leave. Anyone tried this? Any experiences?

From the official Norwegian Directorate of Immigration:

Another page at the same site is just as specific.

You mentioned that you were looking on US sites for visas for Norwegians – the problem is however not at the US end, but at Norway’s. For instance, I believe that a US citizen can gain Norwegian citizenship without renouncing their US one, so dual US/Norwegian citizenship is possible, it just can’t be done the way that your friend has gone.

Perhaps flodnak will see this thread and be able to contribute more.
