Anybody read "The Extension of Man"?

Has anybody read The Extension of Man by J. D. Bernal? How was it?

Anxiously yours,

Don’t book questions go in Cafe Society?

This better not be anything to do with penis pumps.

“Cafe Society
Our salon for art, drama, literature, movies, music – all the artistic disciplines – if it’s about art or entertainment, it goes here.”

This is science, not literature.

“In My Humble Opinion
“What’s your favorite …?” For frank exchanges of views on less-than-cosmic topics. This is also the place for polling” (emphasis mine)

Has anybody read it? & Recommendations? both seemed like polling type questions.

Regardless, that doesn’t mean much–I’m not really hip to the culture of the board. How do I move my question, or do I just start a string there?

p.s. That penis pump joke is pretty funny.

Hi, js_africanus, and welcome.

If you want a thread moved, just post the request and/or e-mail the forums mods. (Our namees are linked uptop the page.) It might take us a little while–we’re volunteer and aren’t online all the time–but we’ll be happy to move it for you. Please don’t post a duplicate thread in another forum; we try to keep a discussion pretty much in one place so people don’t have to read/post all over the place.

Actually discussions about science books can reasonably fit in several places. Some of 'em get excellent discussions in GQ (General Questions) where many of the hardcore science types hang out.

Why don’t we let this one ride where it is for the moment and see how it goes.

TVeblen,

Thank you. I’ll follow your advice.

Moderator’s note:

At OP’ request, I’m moving this to GQ. We both agree it’d fit in with the science fans over there.

Zap!

Anything by Bernal probably doesn’t fall into the category of "art, drama, literature, movies, music " in any way distinct from science. Otherwise, my answer is “no, though I possibly should have.” I probably can direct you to his house in Camden, which I presume is the one with the Picasso mural, … but I could be wrong.

I apologize for being thick. I’m not sure I understand what that means.

Sorry for being inadvertantly oblique (though the Picasso reference was deliberately so): I was backing you up on the issue of preventing this being bumped to Cafe Society. Though, given the lack of interest here, a relocation to Great Debates might have led to somebody expressing at least an opinion.

Ah, thank you.

It does seem to be dead in the water, doesn’t it? I’ll give it some time–not every thread is a winner, after all.
