Anybody See The HBO Documentary (About Drugs In Cape Cod)?

i missed it-our latest cable “package” iteration doesn’t include HBO. in case you have seen it, are there any new insights about this plague? Thanks

Looking up ‘Drugs In Cape Cod’, I see this is a documentary about 8 heroin addicts living there offered a 90-day treatment program.
Now for all I know, this is a far greater proportion of concentrated druggies than in any similar sized American area. and having them around is destroying the Coddies’ way of life; but I feel sure this plague can be tackled by throwing more money at the War on Drugs, and vastly increasing prison sentences for everyone.

I miss Joseph C. Lincoln.

I only barely skimmed it. From what I could tell, the basic take-aways were:

  1. With marijuana becoming more and more legal in the US, Mexican drug cartels have switched from selling marijuana to selling cheap heroin. Thus heroin has become much more easily and cheaply available.

  2. 80% of new heroin addicts originally got hooked on prescription pain meds. They weren’t even necessarily druggies by nature. One of the addicts featured was never a drug user. She got hooked after being run over by a car and getting prescribed all those pain meds during her painful recovery.

  3. With the increase in costs of prescription drugs like oxycodone (or whatever), after getting hooked on the prescriptions, it’s a natural progression to switch to heroin. $30 for a single pill, or that same $30 for a bunch of heroin that gives you the same high/effect many times over? Easy choice.
