Anybody Use TurboTax Desktop?

On a sidenote, it feels like it’s been a decade at least at the IRS has been fighting to make free filing software available in some form, and they did have an arrangement with some of the companies, but those companies (including Intuit) have been fighting anything more substantial. Still, progress is happening.

Update: TurboTax can go fuck itself. I had done all my tax work and was going to submit, and it had mysteriously upgraded me to premium. Worse than that, there was no way to back out of it, and when I went to the help section it said I had to clear out all my tax work and start over if I wanted to downgrade.

Doing a little googling, I see I am not the only person who this is happened to. Apparently on an early screen I clicked or toggled something that told them I wanted deluxe, or I failed to click a default button.

Unfortunately I am not eligible for the new IRS free filing package because I have pension income.

Fucking assholes.

I gave up on TT (I had to eat the price that I paid for the Deluxe version) and used FreeTaxUSA.

I have pension income as well, and FreeTax was completely free except for my state.

TT has lost this long-time customer forever.

Just completed my third year of FreeTaxUSA. I’m a fan, and not just because of the price.

I’ve used TT since forever. I’ve never been rat-f***ed by them, but they are getting on my nerves, and the awkward combination of pre-Windows 3.1 styling and latest web app styling is pissing me off more each year.

I have a clean break coming in TTY2024 with my finances; no longer working and no longer married. If there was ever a time to start over fresh in some new app with little overhead, this is it.

Gonna give the competition a whirl, that’s for sure.

Thanks for the vectors everyone.

I just filed both federal and state with FreeTax, and it was super easy. Goodbye Turbo Tax!
