Our local chapter of LWV does very worthwhile things, like holding local candidate forums about 4 times a year and sponsoring other speakers on topics like redistricting and census taking.
The local chapter consists of about 15 old ladies (not me!) and is always pleading extreme poverty, although the old ladies are individually far from poor. They claim that their annual dues must all go to the national organization, and last year’s donation drive resulted in only $400. Not a lot to pay even small expenses for forums and press releases for a year.
So is our local chapter the exception or the rule? I think LWV is a good organization, but everyone needs a little money to operate, and they seem to be seriously deficient. Anyone active in the League and have any advice?
