Going there with a sports team in june. We arrive on friday evening. We’d like to go to a cafe in the Piazza around the Duomo and have a few beers al fresco, out in the piazza, looking up at the cathedral in awe, to really bring it home that we’re in Milan. Problem is I’m not sure if there are any such cafes in the piazza. Does anyone know if there are? And if so, what they’re called? I’ve been looking online but it hasn’t been conclusive.
Beyond that, any recommendations for Milan nightlife - bars, clubs, etc, preferably of the type sports teams can go to rather than the posh ones - that would be appreciated.
I was there 2 years ago and yes, there are cafes exactly like you are thinking of.
I don’t remember the names, but looking at the Duomo we sat at one on the left side of the piazza. It was September but still warm, so we had beer and ice cream.
I was there with my wife so we didn’t find any sports-teams type bars, sorry. Enjoy the trip!
There’s a McDonald’s directly across the piazza from the Cathedral.
I know, I noticed that, not really the vibe we’re looking for!!
pilot141 that’s good to hear you went to the sort of cafe I’m hoping for. Did you have to book in advance or was there plenty of space to just rock up?
No reservation in advance - it was a very casual place. Small tables set up outside so they can move them all back inside when they close.
If your group is big you might end up scattered around the cafe, or in different restaurants altogether.
Here is a pic to help. Come up out of the train station, look left and this is what you will see. We went to the place in the bottom right of the photo, with the peaked awning.
I figured. I was just messing around. But it is funny because there is another one inside the Galleria as well. So that’s two within a hamburger’s throw from each other.
What kind of Sports team is this? How many people are you traveling with? How long are you staying?
I only live like an hour and a half away, so if you have any problems or need assistance with anything, let me know!
