Anyone bought a car through an auto broker?

My sister-in-law and her husband are going through an auto broker to buy their next car. They’re quite happy with the process so far, although they haven’t got the car yet.

For those who don’t know: you decide what kind of car you want and what you’re willing to spend, and your auto broker goes out and finds a car for you that fits your criteria. I don’t know specifically how they’re paid, but I’d imagine they take a percentage of the purchase price.

I think I’d heard of auto brokers before, but I wasn’t very familiar with them, and I didn’t know anyone who’d used one.

Has anyone on the boards used an auto broker? Was it worth it? Would you do it again?

Hmm… I’m interested in this topic from the other point of view. I want to get an auto broker to sell my car for me. It’s a somewhat new, fairly decent car (2000 Accord) – I just can’t deal with placing a newspaper ad, or whatever. I want to pay someone a flat percentage to sell it for me, on condition that I have no contact with the buyer until I sign over the title and collect the cashier’s check. Am I likely to find such a service?

I take it that’s a “no,” then.

(Sorry, masonite, I don’t have any info on how to hook up with an auto broker as a seller.)
