Anyone but Joe Wilson heckle the President in a joint session?

I witnessed someone on the news recently claim that no one except Rep. Joe Wilson has ever verbally heckled the president during an address to a joint session of Congress since “the dawn of the television age” (or words to that effect).

I specified the term “verbally” to distinguish it from inarticulate sounds such as grunting or what Gov. Lepetomane was demanding when he angrily exclaimed: “I didn’t get a harrumph from that guy!”

But I’ve also heard people on Fox News and elsewhere repeatedly assert that George W. Bush was heckled thusly during a speech in front of a joint session of Congress.

This being GQ, I only ask: What are the facts, please?

Apparently yes, but not to the extent of calling the President a liar.

Given the quality of Jefferson’s writing (and his pretty ordinary speaking prowess), that was probably a good decision.
