Got a notice from them saying I owed $63.68 for UPS brokerage, but when I tried to phone them my phone issued a spam warning.
So, avoid, then?.
Unless you’re aware of an incoming international package being sent via UPS, you can ignore the notice as a scam attempt. And even if you were expecting something from UPS, surely they and not some third-party company would be the ones asking for the money?
RMS only attempts to collect delinquent payments (so not for anything inroute). If it is legit, ignoring it might affect your credit rating.
But even if the collection is legit, what of the spammy phone number?
Yeah, legit collections agencies kind of want you to call them back.
Eta: but I could be wrong…
Have you googled the phone number? You should get one of two results; a “contact us” page on RMS’s website or dozens of reports on scam alert websites…or nothing at all, which makes it just as suspicious.
They are a debt collection agency. If you ordered anything through UPS from overseas they may be trying to collect on a tariff or some other fee. If you wish to talk to them call the number on their website and not the number on the bill, which might be spoofed.
Thanks - never googled a number before. The results for this one? Some say legit, others say fraudulent.
After googling “North American Receivable Management Services”, the closest I could come to hunting down their “website” was through another actual website called CollectionAgencies.ca, which seemed slightly hinky to me, much like its AI overview. It listed two phone numbers - the one on my notice, and some other number. That other number was listed as “Main”, while the number I tried to call was listed as “User Reported”.
Chuck it - tomorrow I’m just gonna trundle down to the UPS depot and hopefully they have my name in their sysytem and get this nuttiness resolved.
If they sold the debt to this company, they probably can’t help you because, well…“We got ours already, so you are on your own.”
