What the title says. Just wondering is anyone is getting on the ellobandwagon?
I know there’s lots of scorn for social networks like Facebook and Twitter here - and I’m not sure that ello doesn’t deserve scorn too, only been looking at it for 24 hours. But have to admit in my SF-tech-industry world there’s been lots of interest and quick uptake. And even some organic usage beyond the “Hey checking this out” posts.
It’ll be interesting to watch whether this goes the way of Pinterest or Google Wave.
I follow a decent few early-adopter types on Twitter, and the buzz so far has been that the user agreement is disengenuous, and the user interface is badly designed.
I think anyone trying to make a “better” social network is doomed to fail. None of the popular social networks have done this. Facebook started as a way to connect college people. Twitter was a way to make public text messages. Pinterest was just about showing images. Instagram was showing images and adding fun filters. Tumblr was set up to be more of a web host type deal. WhatsApp, if it counts, is about text messaging over the net.
The only outlier is Google+, but the only reason they had any success at all is the Google brand, and even then Google had to start forcing the issue. They’ve pretty much abandoned the idea of being a better version of Facebook.
To become big, people need to naturally stumble upon your network for other reasons. People don’t join “better” social networks, as their friends aren’t there.
