I’ll check in when I get back this afternoon. Thanks GrumpyBunny.
I haven’t been pumped full of air in years. The last 3 colonoscopies were completely fartless. No grogginess either, felt like I woke up from a nap. Still had warnings to not drive for 24 hours though.
O ye’ll tak’ the high road, and I’ll tak’ the low road,
And I’ll be in Stomach a’fore ye,
Hope all went well
I burped and farted copiously throughout the procedures, but was done with that shortly after they finished. Well before versed would have worn off.
Same here–I once woke up and tried to pull the thing out of my throat. I need to get them pretty often because I have issues with esophogeal stricture and digestive system in general. I always warn the anesthesiologist and the whole medical team that I have a high tolerance and to make sure they give me enough “stuff.”
Re: the stuff, I have noticed a big change in what they use. Back in the day, 25 years ago or so they always used a valium/demorol (sp?) combo which gave me the most awesome buzz right before the procedure (made me understand how people can get addicted to these substances). At a certain point they could tell me that my whole family was just murdered and I’d be like: “Cool, man, whatever.” And I love my family. It took hours after the procedure to come off the effect of the drugs–so the 24-hour “no drive” rule was very sensible.
In past 10 years or so they switched to a much more efficient sedative (probably Propofol) that just knocks me out in the snap of a finger, and then after the procedure I recover from the drug rather quickly–I can definitely drive within an hour or so, but still do not.
As noted above, the actual procedure is usually a piece of cake. The 24-hour fasting and forced purging for the colonoscopy is by far the worst part.
Co-worker had it done Wednesday. No sedation. For him, the colonoscopy was more uncomfortable than the endoscopy, and that wasn’t much. He didn’t drive home becuse he was met, because they’d warned him they’d knock him out if there was trouble, but they didn’t, and he could have.
Had the double whammy. Have to do prep for both, and anesthesia for both, so doing both together is a good option.
Fell asleep before the probe was down my throat. Became conscious while still having the butt probe, but still very high, and did not care. They gave me a little extra something because I guess I tensed a little. I watched the screen, but I don’t remember what I saw. I remember talking to the doctor, but I don’t remember anything that was said.
Apparently, the colonoscopy used to be really uncomfortable because they used a gas to make room for the probe that you had to fart out afterwards, and the gas pains could be painful until you did. Now they use something you absorb.
Anyway, came home afterwards, took a nap, still didn’t feel much like eating. Wasn’t 100% until the next day, but mostly was just sleepy, like I had a contact high.
OP here. Procedure was canceled/put off as The Good Doctor determined I had a respiratory infection which means, I get to do Movi Prep yet again in 2-3 weeks!
It may depend on your colon. I was puffed up with air, and I did fart it out afterwards. But it wasn’t very unpleasant, except for the shoving it in part. In fact, I would describe the actual exam (which was done as they pulled the probe out) as completely painless. And I found it fascinating to see my insides. Like, did you know you can sort of see the liver through the wall of the colon?
I have a friend who had to have an unsedated colonoscopy for some medical reason. She was completely mortified that she farted in the face of the doctor. I pointed out that 100% of his patients do that. But she was still mortified – the rest of his patients were sedated, so that didn’t count.
oh goodie. Best wishes.
I had both on the same day. It was no big deal. It certainly didn’t seem any worse than getting the colonoscopy alone.
I don’t recall any hoarseness or a sore throat afterwards.
