Anyone else remember the Manhunter adventure games?

There were two, Manhunter New York and Manhunter San Francisco. The premise was Earth was conquered by aliens called Orbs (two different species of aliens actually) and you worked as a alien collaborator who hunted resistance menbers who eventually joins the resistance yourself.

They were fun and imaginative. A third one was promised (set in London) but never delivered. Manhunter New York was the first computer game I owned (prior to that I played games borrowed from friends) and I still have them both here somewhere in all their floppy disk glory. Anyone else play these?

I remember them existing, but never played either. I wonder if they are available for free now?

Yep. I had Manhunter NYC for the IIGS. Weird game, and didn’t follow the typical engine that Sierra games had.

The game that takes place in 2002, and opens with a shot of the NYC skyline…with a big hole in the middle of one of the Twin Towers.

ACG entry.

I played most of the Sierra games from that era, but I missed this one. Looks kinda creepy.

Maybe one of you can explain what this paragraph from the Wikipedia article means:

Doesn’t the mouse normally point out where the cursor must go?

I’m sorry but no, I have no idea what that means. I remember the Manhunter games used no typing which was a first for Sierra at the time but don’t recall anything weird about how the mouse worked.

The game had a cursor, used to make selections. And yes, you used the ARROW KEYS to move the cursor, and then the Enter key to make a selection. Like most early Sierra games, the mouse was an after thought. If you clicked somewhere with the mouse cursor (which is different from the game’s cursor, which would change shapes based on what mode it was in), it would simply move the game’s cursor to where you clicked (instead of having to use the arrow keys to get it there), but it would move at the same speed as if you used the arrow keys, and you’d still have to press Enter to “click” it once it got to that point on the screen.
