Anyone else rolling their eyes at the recent topics in IMHO?

I’m… somewhat older than that, and had to sneak into the theater to see it.

I know you kid, but there really is a subset of posters here that would probably love to see such a thread. I mean, really, search on “pimple” but go back about 10 years. “Motherload pore” is another searchable phrase for that sort of thing.

l_i_h, I think you just need to accept that there’s a certain subset of folks out here who don’t view oogy body things, with or without fluids, as inappropriate or immature. They’re not going to change their minds about it, any more than you are likely to change yours. There are tons of threads on these sorts of things going back over a decade. Clearly, some people wish to discuss this.

As far as the tampon string and pee question: just the sort of thing many folks wonder about but are uncomfortable asking in person, so a text-based message board provides sufficient anonymity to allow them to ask.

Powermuff vs. bald? Look, dude, people generally need to discuss/negotiate relationship things much more than they do. I suspect the OP of that thread, due to circumstances beyond his control, is more socially isolated than most (and will continue to be - damn those wheelchairs!) and asked that out of genuine interest in the question itself as much as out of any skanky impulse. Not to mention it went of its own accord from “asking about women’s crotches” to contributions on the crotch grooming of both genders. You know, some of us don’t find sex to be dirty or inherently naughty. It’s not like anyone is being forced to post in that thread.

Maybe I’d be more sympathetic to your position if you’d asked “hey, women, do you find this guy’s question offensive?” (Answer in my case: no, not in the manner in which it was asked). Instead, you come across as a sanctimonious tool that wants to protect women whether or not we feel a need to be protected in that thread. I’m pretty sure that’s not the impression you intended, just how you came across to this poster.

TL:DNR - if you think the thread might offend you, don’t open it. If you find it offensive after you open it don’t feel compelled to stay.

Wah wah wah. Oh noo we’re giving you mixed messages, you’re such a martyr and everyone’s against you.

How about paying attention to WHAT you post and not trying to paint people’s dislike of you as a function of WHERE you post?

Dude. Enjoy this thread. Hajario wasn’t kidding when he said you have NO idea what’s typical around here.

On another note, I have no doubt any party you throw would turn into a whine and cheese party.

“Maybe there’s hope yet for living_in_hell to develop into an actual Doper, instead of a future name on a plaque dedicated to the gone-but-not-particularly-missed posters of the past year.”

Wait… wait. There is a -plaque-!? Gosh darn it.

I think what was interesting about that thread was how much more conversational it sounded when he posted later on–talking about female body hair within the context of a generational zeitgeist is much different. He says that’s why he started that thread (then why not say that up front?) It’s like it went from study hall to contemporary history in one post.

Despite the accusations of hijacking, I was genuinely curious about whether my response which warranted the “lighten up” comment was correlated with my gender/relational status. I thought about opening a thread there about it, but then assumed I’d get hammered for something that sounded too passive aggressive, so I posted here.

No this is not a pity party but the unwritten rules here are hard to follow! I need a sponsor.

Won’t be your sponsor, but I’ll write down at least some of the unwritten rules (again)

Here, I’ll throw the OP a bone - here’s an example of similar thread that attracted more opprobrium from the Doper population at large: Ladies: Show Us Your Nipples.

And here is the subsequent Pit thread started to bitch about the prudes who refused to acknowledge the glory of the properly measured and categorized nipple: Oh good lord!!! Not Nipples!!!

After perusing those you can see what caused the more or less negative reaction was mostly the over-the-top and ( IMHO ) vaguely creepy level of detail requested. Even then some folks defended that thread as nothing to get in a tizzy about. But in general you’re going to have to have that level of obsessive detail before it starts causing some serious backlash in this particular board culture. By contrast simple TMI threads like peeing on tampon strings have a long history around here and don’t typically raise any eyebrows - people that don’t like them just have learned to avoid them.

Agreed. Who the fuck cares what other people are posting? Don’t like the thread topic, don’t read it. You know, we’re not all here to confrom to YOUR expectations. Get over yourself.

I jacked off to this. By the way living_in_hell, you got something on your chin.

You’ve ignored our efforts to help you.

Remember way back when you first joined and just had to post everywhere incessantly?

A number of people suggested you listen for a while, then post. You did not take their advice. Others encouraged you to learn what the board is like, what would offend people, what would be annoying, before you started discussions. You didn’t listen.

And then, when you said you needed “more focus, less forum”, I gave you free advice that worked for me:

So, once again we plead with you. Take some time off from posting. Listen to people, don’t just blather at them. Like I told you before:

Thank you. Quite helpful.

I’ve noticed that too and for these reasons I’m calling troll. He’s doing a pretty good job of annoying people and he’s following the rules so he has staying power. I’m going to give him a solid B+.

Just Tasmanian Devil entrance, slow on the uptake, and then approach from multiple angles until something works.

Not a troll, not a he.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure living_in_hell is a banned poster, back for a little trolling. I hope so, anyway. I’d hate to think someone would just naturally be that stupid and annoying.

That’s fine, though. Every board needs a few trolls to liven things up.

Not a troll.

Never been here before March.

Some people find me stupid and annoying; some do not.

If images were enabled, here’s where I’d post a pie chart:

50%: find living_in_hell both stupid and annoying
25%: find living_in_hell stupid
24%: find living_in_hell annoying
<1%: other

Gotcha.

I did a Fourier analysis of posts on the dope and found two distinct frequencies. 28 days and 14 days.

How would that be plotted? Histogram?

Ooooh, can you do a Venn Diagram instead? I love me some Venn. Everyone else seems to be enjoying some giggety-giggety somewhere on this board, and I want some action too!
