Wiki and homepage. Speaking of the touring version here, just saw it last night. ALW production, talent was great, choreography excellent, fountain sari scene inspired, was very colorful as the promos promised, but man, I could just not get into it. The storyline was about as hackneyed as anything I’ve ever seen onstage (essentially a variation of poor kid wants to be a star and save his slum, let’s put on a show!), and it was beyond incredible to be joyous about getting to move back into a slum after tasting success. Trite I say! Trite, trite, trite! Anyone out there have CATS love for this work? What did I miss?
IANAIndian, but jeez the whole production seemed stereotypical. I know the music and book were done by people with at least Indian roots, but cripes. All the actors seemed to be channeling Apu Nahasapeemapetilon.
OMG, the book’s writer is Meera Syal, the grandmother on The Kumars at No. 42, god I hate that show, this explains it all. NM, ignore my OP, question answered.
